Jim, do you know when Anne CHADD nee WHITTY died?
She is a tricky one. Her marriage states she was born in Woodstock but the birth there is a Johanna Ann WHITTY in 1855. Parents Mark & Catherine nee MAYLOR/MEYLOR of Wexford, Ireland.
Not sure if this is the right WHITTY family? There is more about them here: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~whittyclanaustralia/jameswhitty/d1.htm
Similarly do you know when Wm RIDER died? His marriage shows he was born at Tarrengower, but no matches. Did he have a 2nd given name?

The Manzie family are an interesting lot!
They came from Ceylon (now known as Sri Lanka). Jno Alex was born there, in Kandy.
Here is Jno and his siblings:
1. James c1847 Ceylon – 1943 St Kilda East, m. Jane PONTIN 1867 2. Ann Isabella c1849 Ceylon – 1920 Richmond, m. Hamilton WEBSTER 1878 3. Jno Alex c1853 Ceylon – 1904 Heidelberg 4. Charles Samuel c1856 Ceylon – 1920 Ffield, m. Mary BEHN 1877 5. Mary Helen Ceylon c1859 – 1917 A Vale, m. Joseph Nicholas Way HINWOOD 1883 6. Phoebe Jane c1862 Ceylon – 1863 Vic 7. Andrew Albert Arthur 1864 Melb - 1943 Burnley, m. Monica May BELLEW 1883 8. Hy Francis 1869 Richmond - ?
The family must have arrived in Vic in 1863 but I can't find it.
The parents were David Wm MANZIE & Mary ATWELL. David died in 1906 aged 83 in Brunswick, father David and mother not stated. Mary died in Richmond in 1902 aged 74, dau of James & Mary ATWELL.
If you want me to dig deeper just send me a PM.

Hi Jim & Julie
Looks like we have been working on this at the same time! ;-)
Elizabeth McMURRAY married John BURKE/BOURKE in 1842 at St Francis (Roman Catholic) Melbourne (reg 35502).
They had the following children: Sarah 1843 Merri Creek Mary 1845 Melbourne John 1847 Pt Melb Eliza 1852 Melb
John died in 1855 aged 33, parents names not shown.
Elizabeth remarried in 1857 to Thomas Alexander BENNETT (reg 2218). He died in 1880 aged 51; he was born in Jamaica! They had the following children:
Juliana c1858-1873 aged 17 Queenstown Thos 1862 Brighton-1941 Sophia 1865 Melb, m. Jos COLVIN 1895?
This is her death with error for mother's given name:
Surname: BENNETT Given Names: Elizth Event: D Father: Mcmurray Wm Mother: Elizabeth ROBINSON Age: 48 Death Place: E HILL Year: 1881 Reg Number: 7295
I had Mary marrying Humphrey SPICER as well. Can't figure out where he came from! He died in Queenstown in 1895 aged 76, son of John & Martha nee BURGESS (reg 10844).
Same chn as Julie found with one aditional: Alex Humphrey c1855-1937, m. Martha McMILLAN 1880. Samuel appeared to go by the name Samson; he died in 1949 and married Margt KINRADE 1879. Clara married Jas GATES in 1874. Daughter Margaret had a son named Hy in Eltham in 1860, who died aged 11 weeks, father not named - she would have been quite young. Possible marriage for her to Joseph RONZAS in 1864. No further trace of Margaret or Clara.
Mary's death:
Surname: SPICER Given Names: Mary Event: D Father: Mcmurray Wm Mother: Sarah ROBERTSON Age: 79 Death Place: Hoth W Year: 1905 Reg. Number: 12976

Possible marriages for Sarah Ann's sisters...BUT you would have to buy the marriage certificates to get further info. to know whether you have the correct people...
There were 3 marriages for Mary McMurray.. 1 was born Ireland, 1 was born in Streatham. & this 1 had no birth place but she was married in the same church as Sarah
Mary McMurray m. 1843 at St James, Ch of Eng., Melbourne (Reg.No. .. 4696) to Humphrey SPICER (possibly died 1895, 76yrs

Mary Ann b. 1847, Point Nepean Sarah Ann b. 1849, Point Nepean Mary b. 1851, Flemmington John Humphrey b~ 1853 d. 1854 1yr, Bendigo John Henry b~1856 d. 1858 2yrs, Eltham Clara b. 1858 Eltham Samuel b. 1860, Eltham Martha b~1864, d. 1869, 5yrs, Vict.
Children of Elizabeth & John Burke... Mary b. 1845, Melb John b. 1847, P Eliza b. 1852, Melb

Yes pls - looking for: 1. marriage/children of Sarah McMurray's 2 sisters 2. children of other Whittys 3. children of other Newtons 4. children of other Mitchell's 5. children of other Manzies 6. children of other Riders
We know there are other Whittys & Riders in Vic. but know nothing of the other families.
On another subject, I stumbled across yours and others comments about not replying to "threads". I agree about no help pages from GR - I am very new to GR and am just stumbling around and learning as I go. Again, I just stumbled across these new threads tonight!
