IT'S A MYSTERY

Battenburg

Battenburg Report 19 Feb 2009 00:30

My gt grandfather was on the census as John Darby with my grandmother Florence so all confirmed. I tried tracing him back and before 1871 he disappeared. I looked for his marriage and found he married as Darbey/Burden.
Then found him under Burden with the correct father William and correct occupation on the 1861,1851,1841 census.

Looking further into it I find his grandparents Darby and Burden never married. His grandfather John left a will leaving propery and money to son and grandchildren and William Burden his son was present at his death.

John Burden my gt grandfather registered all his children as Darby including my grandmother. Then to fool me I couldnt find my grandmothers first marriage under Darby. Found she married as Florence D Burden father John Darby Burden.
At least this was my proof for all my findings.
Perhaps your man used a stepfathers name or used the name he was known as

Pam Report 18 Feb 2009 22:59

I wonder if Richard Morgan Applejohn was not his real name. If he was born in 1884 he could have married about 1905 and he appears not to have married until about 1925/6....so was he married already ?

Pam Report 18 Feb 2009 22:52
