Find Ancestors

Dear all,

My ggggg aunt Catherine Hogg was born in Newby Wiske in 1846 and is living in the village with her siblings and her parents Edward and Mary in 1851.

However, although I have tried to the usual census and FREE BMD searches I can see no other sign of her. Can anyone help? Am I just not looking correctly?

I first searched on ancestry for Cath*, b. 1845 +/- 5 years, Yorkshire, New*

Nothing showed on 1881 and 1891, but this emerged on the 1901.

Then I went to freebmd, entered Ant* Dixon, Cath*, 1871 to 1891

and up came the marriage registration

If all else fails in finding an elusive relative ...... try searching on birth year +/5, county and place of birth

You migth end up having to scroll through several pages ......... but it does pull up mispellings, or those that have been entered using only the first initial of their name.


I often use only the first 3 letters of county and place name in case it is not entered exactly as I think it should be

so I use Yor* and New*
