I have just been i contact with John Minter from the Minter Exchange. He now agrees that that the evidence points towards my Alice marrying William Wells and not Frank Holmes as previously thought. I would now like to know if anyone could find descendants for
Births Mar 1914 (>99%) WELLS William P Minter Greenwich 1d 1981
or Alice Wells 1909 Canada
I presume there must be some or I would not have found the message on Ancestry from Ted Wells. Unfortunately he is no longer a member so I cannot contact him.

Now I have a conundrum. Alice had a sister Daisy,

Marriages Jun 1916 (>99%) Minter Daisy Selley Greenwich 1d 2028 Selley Harry J Minter Greenwich 1d 2028
Why do Daisy and Harry have two marriage registrations?

The Holmes marriage was Alice M Minter so could be Alice Maude 1890
|
|
If William enlisted over here 1914 and Alice was pregnant it would be natural to return home to give birth where she would have support. I am certain this is the correct marriage just from my memory of aunt Alice in Canada. I would be interested to know about the other Alice Minter though. Can't see another Alice Mary that soort of age.

I was just looking at the original of the 1911 census. It says that William emigrated 1907 and Alice 1908. Little Alice was born May 1909 in Ontario.
Update: Sorry! Just re-read the thread and you already had that!

Some one has Bernard on their tree so I have sent a message.

That marriage is also a puzzle. There was another branch of the Minter family in Woolwich and as no proven connection. I will forward this to John Minter at the Minter exchange (One Name study) for his perusal. Thanks again.

There's this marriage. Woolwich and Greenwich are next door to each other, it doesn't really tie in with the trips to Canada tho'.
Marriages Dec 1910 (>99%)
Ambrose Maud E C Woolwich 1d 2072 Cooper George T Woolwich 1d 2072 Holmes Frank M Woolwich 1d 2072 Minter Alice M Woolwich 1d 2072
And this would be a child of the above union

I though this was their son. Perhaps they were visiting family when he was born. Explains why he was not on 1911 Canada He was not born.

Looks like she went out to Canada 1908 to marry. I wonder if William and Mary are on any passenger lists after that date?

That would be him as well. Thank you. I entered Alice on my tree on day 1 on GR 3 years ago and made little progress till today.

Fairthorn you are wonderful. I wonder what happened to young William? I remember an aunt Alice coming to visit from Canada when I was small. I suspect it would be the 2 year old in 1911. I am at work now so taking a quick look. will be back tonight. Thanks a lot. Christine

An Alice Mary, 25, departed in 1908 from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada. An Alice, 23, departed in 1905 from Liverpool to New York, USA. May have been this Alice Mary, working on the ships? or perhaps travelling as a servant with her employer?
I found a cryptic message from someone on Ancestry posted several years ago.from a Ted Wells whom I have been unable to contact. "My Grandfather was William Frank Wells born Feb 22 year 1885-88?? still have to go to cemetery, Born in Englan Greenheth?? thing spelling error there, but paper very faded, he had 7 brothers and sister. Percy who was a MP for Labour party think MP for an area around Swale married a Florence understand he died in 1964 they had a daughter mrs. I think they may have had a son William P Wells before they left Greenwich.
Alice has a brother Albert G Minter. Findmypast.com has an Albert G Minter, 19, departing from Liverpool in 1920 for Halifax, Canada.Perhaps visiting his older sister.
Ancestry.com has a record of a service pension being paid to Albert George Minter. The form is dated 11 August 1919 and shows Albert's birthplace as Greenwich, his age as 18 years 240 days, occupation Labourer and that he was in the Rifle Brigade, number 39408. He served until 18 November 1919. Next of kin were shown as father, Francis and mother Mary of 58 East... Street, Greenwich SE. Albert was assessed to be 20% disabled when he left the army and received a small weekly allowance.
Sorry this is long winded but it saves someone duplicating what I know.
