Thank you again, but I,m going round in circles. The Oakleys in St Albans and gloucester are so similar I,d be guessing although the latter is favourite. will look further.
Many thanks Happy days

All good stuff, for which I thank you. All this stems bac k to my brick wall. William to William and Mary Hayes, Cheltenham 1803. that's it.

There has been a long connection with the Jennings family. Indeed at Cheltenham, assizes A Wm Hayes assaulted William Jennings.(1832) Perhaps another co-incidence. Newspapers are my only hope on that one.
There are no other reported children to the above couple, but i feel that there are bound to be some.
The younger William himself in turn only had his first born christened, which might just be a family trait. ( He turned up in Kendal 1833.

She would have been old enough to marry before civil registration (1837) began so you would need parish records to find

What else do you know about Mary?

You must know more than her birthplace & birth year.............

How does she fit in your tree?

Any reason to think she would have moved from Glos to Herts?

Harry

Harry Report 16 Mar 2009 14:03

Thanks for that. No better off, but a shade wiser.

Many thanks indeed for those two latest replies. i have had many doors opened for me in the past, all of which have led no-where.
These two are very promising. There was an ancient connection between Hayes and Jennings.
These may or may not be connected but offer hope.
XXXadded. This seems like the family i wanted. It is OAKLEY BUT TRANSCRIBED WRONGLY - ALL OF WHICH GOES TO SHOW........
Best wishes Happy days

Thank you for the interest. As I,ve said before i have a high wall. The odds on this are long but I,m desperate.
Sue C - correct.
Now something ridiculous. I didn,t take proper note of this when it appeared cos it didn,t seem significant. Tried my ancestry link etc without finding it again. (no district) 1851 census.
Mary (widow) no surname, 64 annuitant.
John Oakley, 32.
Mary Oakley 31 born Gloucestershire
John 6
suggests that JO married MJ. Hoping something would come up on that, Pallets etc.

Hi, I don't think that you need two names to order a cert. The ref is St Albans 6/622. If you are sure that she is the right mary Jennings. There are no others in Hertfordshire for that quarter.
One male name is missing from the list. Eileen

Harry Report 15 Mar 2009 21:54

Don,t think that is the one Minnie, but thanks for your interest.Mary (ann)Jennings was born in Elmore GloucsMay 1819.
From one of the popular sites I have her possibly marrying john Oakley on 1840, St Albans..
Will probably need a Palletts look up or something equally clever to confirm or deny.
