Does anyone know how to get an American phone number? I've found the person I'm looking for in the White pages but you can't get the information without paying. It's a number in New Orleans.

BT used to have an international directory enquiry service - would that be cheaper

I tried that first but they couldn't find him and yet I found him on the white pages through the inteius site. Strange !

Does this work?

Shannette:

Several of the websites mentioned above will work for you (www.anywho.com, www. 411.com) if the person you are searching for has a publicly listed telephone number. If they choose to have an unlisted telephone number your best bet would be the Inteius site.

I don't know if I'm going wrong somewhere but I keep getting the same result and can't access his address or phone number even though I can see his details. His name is Raul Beorlegui aged 83 living in New Orleans. He's my half sister's father. She hasn't seen him since she was 5 and wants to write to or ring him before its too late.

I can't see it either on White Pages or 411. There are a few Beorlegui's in Florida but no Raul.

I found him on the Intelius site. I've also checked the Social Security Death Index and he's not on that.So hopefully he's still alive.

Shanette,

Some of those sites have very out of date/inaccurate info. Was he originally from the US? There's one on the passenger lists from Argentina.

Short of paying Intelius, perhaps you could try Googling the names of a few of the newspapers in New Orleans and contacting them with your plight. One or several of them may run a blurb in their paper and he may see it or someone he knows may.

Rose --thanks for that--yes he was originally from Argentina. My mother lived with him briefly in Beunos Aires in 1955.He was with his mother and had 2 unmarried sisters.
Judy --I'll do that as well if all else fails. I really hope he's still alive. I don't know why my sister has suddenly decided to find him but will do all I can to help her. The I telius site asks for payment in dollars. How would I do that as I'm in England?

I can't tell what site you're looking at, but I'd be careful.

Online personal info sales is big business in the US. Most telephone directories on line will give you links to these outfits that charge for information.

I would not be confident that the information was actually about the person you are looking for.

An actual ordinary telephone listing would simply appear in the white pages. I think what you are being directed to is possibly snake oil.

Okay, got it.

http://www.intelius.com/

Looks like your person, and well, for $2, you can't really go wrong. ;)

Just note that it says

Report includes **when available**

Address, phone number, etc, might not be included. There is only one record, and it's hard to guess what it might be.

Do not bite for the special price with the "identity protect trial", of course, or add any of the bells and whistles it offers when you check out.

You are all so clever ! I'll have to pluck up the courage to try it.Can I be sure he's not dead if he's not on the Social Security Death I ndex?

Shannette

Shannette Report 19 Mar 2009 19:12

Well I've been brave and paid my 1$95 and got his address. It gave me his date of birth and another relative's name but no phone number.Still hoping he's alive.

Good luck! And it was interesting to know that those scammy looking ads sometimes work. ;)
