i cant find the first alfred and its perculiar that charles had another son called alfred usally when that happens the first alfred may have passed away

and also there was a second child called albert

I have checked on www.freebmd.org.uk and no marriage for Alfred V Mummery, asuming the birth ref and middle name are correct. There is a marriage for an Alfred J Mummery in 1918 in Kent, but if this is him he would have been very young at the time.

Freebmd is not fully transcribed, so the only other way to do online is if you have access to Ancestry / Find My Past to trawl through the marriage indexes quarter by quarter. A long winded job but easier with an uncommon name like Mummery. If you find a marriage ref it will give you surname of space, looking up the index for this surname in same quarter will give you spouse's first name. You can look at indexes in the same way in family history centres at county (some local) libraries, but again it is a case of going through quarter by quarter.

For children once you know mother's maiden name, then Ancestry has all births fully transcribed, so put in Mummery, I usually put in a year 10 years after marriage date then search 10 years either side, plus mother's maiden name and see what comes up.
