I see they registered the other children.
A child can be registered without a first name. Sometimes that is because - despite nearly 9 months + 6 weeks to register in - the family has not yet chosen a name.
If you run a search with Unnamed in the first name column for any census, you'll see plenty of babies 4 weeks and older without names.
Some families placed more importance on the baptism and not the civil registration.
You could try ordering this one:
Births Mar 1846 Gilbert Female Coventry 16 423

Hi John It could be that her birth wasn't registered. Registration didn't become compulsory until 1875. Between 1837 and 1875 it was up to the Registrar to find the births and get them registered if the parents didn't bother so obviously a great many were missed. From 1875 onwards it became the parent's responsibility to register each birth with fines incurred if they didn't and were caught. Your Mary could be one of the children who were missed. There is a submitted entry on the IGI for her but it gives no further details other than date of birth 1846. In the census records she varies between 1844 and 1846 so if you want to continue searching then you probably need to spread your search a little wider but I couldn't find anything that you could think was definitely her.
