yeah i know and he met his wife in the same street: she lived at number 24! ..i gues being a widow with lots of kids to fork out for he might not have been able to afford it

the other day i went to London to see if the houses my grand parents born in where there.....out of 5 only 1 was still there. The rest where big office blocks or factories.

Hi Derek,

I was just about the post the 1911 family but you found them first.

To be honest, I'm amazed they were still at that address when he married. People seemed to changed houses all the time years ago.

Helen: My nan was the same she lied too: she said she was 18 when she got married and she was actually 16: but she was an unsavoury woman at that time the minx had an affair.

Rose: sorry i dont know when he died. I am researchin this for a friend so im asking her the questiions. The witnesses were the parents of the bride: Charles Nokes and Helen Nokes.

Julie: they where both dock Labourers: and iyou are right he could have used his second name. I had the same problem in my nan, she used her middle name and so did her sisters.

Thanks for all your help we do appreciate it...its never simple is it :OS

bear in mind that ages on certs are not always correct and bear in mind that the certificate is the info from the church/vicar then written onto a certificate by a registrar

sometimes people lied and sometimes when the information was written onto the certificate by the registrar they made a mistake, I have a marriage cert for my g-grandfather with his age given as 23, this does not match any census info I have, I asked the local library to look at the original on the parish register and lo and behold he was 33
