Definately 1870 US census correct. Post 1870, totally unsure: Jonas is now eight years younger than I believe ( and his wife), came to USA three years before his marriage and five before his first daughter Ophelia was born, both events in the UK .Possible but I think unlikely. My difficulty is, Jonas is not my relative, other than marriage, and little information is available

Supposedly his sister Hannah joined him in USA,following his wife and children's return to UK. It would be nice to find brother and sister in UK census , but with no reliable DoB's, again struggling. The family certainly came from around Bradford / Skipton.

1870 US Census, certainly has the family. The marriage in Bradford 1862 is also correct.

Sorry Rose, I have not been able to pinpoint jonas in 1761 UK census, but I do know that he had a sister Hannah, who followed him to the USA, but don't know when.

There's one in Massachusetts in 1900 and 1910. The age is a bit out but the profession fits. in 1910, there's a sister called Hannah.

Woodie, please could you list Jonas in 1861? Did he have a sister called Hannah?

That does look good ...... Loom Boss would fit in with Elizabeth and the girls being cotton weavers and spinners.


I tried to find Jonas and Elizabeth's marriage, assuming Skipton ...... no luck


Then I tried to find Ophelia's birth ...... no Ingham that I could see on freebmd, but there was an Ophelia Edmondson, born December quarter 1863 in Skipton.

Jonas Ingham, b 1830, Yorkshire with his wife Elizabeth b 1836and daughter Ophelia b 1864 Shipley, emigrated to the USA. A daughter Mary Ann was born 1868/69, Newcastle, Pennsylvania.

Elizabeth and daughters returned to UK before 1881. Jonas remained in the USA where I understand he died.

Any help would be appreciated on there departure date, there return date, and intervening years.
