Find Ancestors

Could some kind person find me the names of a William Leggett (1849) parents.?
He was born in Pentney Norfolk and married a Rose Eagle.
I don't know if we have had a change somewhere.
All help appreciated.

I was given the Eagle family tree from my Grandmother some years ago ,they were direct decendants,therefore so is William Leggett whos birth was written as Pentney Norfolk. 1849.
various names come up as Legate and Jenkinson on previous searches.
I haven't got this certificate of birth,so it looks like my next option.

He married Rose Ellen Eagle with the surname Leggett.

No Rose wasn't married twice.

If you read the marriage post you will see her father was William Eagle and there was also a witness named William Eagle (perhaps her brother).
Another witness was a Leggatt from the husbands side of the family.

As for William and his flexible surnames you will probably find a lot of this sort of thing during your research.

It seems that if the parents were in a relationship then you will see the census records using the fathers surname, but the childs birth would be registered with Mums, so that when the child married they would do it under their birth surname.

My G Grandad was always recorded as Lee, but when he was married he found his surname was actually Young.

As for the spellings no doubt you will enjoy the varied and strange ways our ancestors were recorded.
