no problem Angela. sorry I'd do not have any access to pay sites so can't help with deaths which are probably beyond what is available at present in freebmd

You're very welcome. I too thought Ruth and Beatrice were sisters - oops! Good job I didn't start searching! Wouldn't have cost me anything tho as I have a sub, don't go thinking I'm as generous as that!
Good luck with the rest of your research.

It wasn't on FreeBMD. Took a rough guess at when they might have married and started searching on the Ancestry site and got lucky!

Hi lancashireann,

Thanks for the info. I've been doing this searching for years but I'm still learning new things all the time.

Must be my age !!! (No I'm not saying)

Beatrice and Ruth were NOT sisters. Their husbands were brothers.

Hi Angela

As Janet said I found the birth of Sheila by the site frebmd.org.uk
using a phonetic search on the surname

Then used the mother's maiden name given to look for the marriage

freebmd is updated once a month and you can look at what years have been transcribed eg 1928 marriage are not complete and coverage of 1932 onwards patchy, 1930/31 complete. Knowing this could save you abit of time if using ancestry etc to search all quarters. You can also search using freebmd by looking at the original images but it is quite time consuming

Was Beatrice not a sister of Ruth - did I just make that assumption

Hi Janet,

I couldn't ask you to do that for me especially if it will cost you money but it would be wonderful if I could just find Beatrice's maiden name.

Angela - these marriages have not been transcribed, so you need to look at the originals online. I do this through ancestry myself. You could try a 14-day free membership, but do make sure you cancel it in good time! If you plan to look at a lot of census reports etc. it does pay to subscribe to something like ancestry or findmypast/
It is then a case of looking at records one-by-one.
If you want me to have a look, let me know, no problem.

Hi Janet,

You have confirmed what lancashireann has said. I think that Beatrice would have married after 1930, so how do I find her details?

Angela - Ruth's marriage to Hector is on freebmd as follows:
Ruth M Hyde Hestor M. Stedman Strood Sep qtr 1926 ref 2a 1973 (the incorrect spelling of Hector is theirs not mine - maybe why you could not find him!
I can't find the other marriage- maybe they did not marry, or it is after about 1930.
Jan
PS Ruth Mabel born Dartford Sep 1902 ref 2a 252
Beatrice born Croyden March 1900 ref 2a 306

I am trying to find details of my 2 aunts Beatrice and Ruth,i.e. maiden name, birth, marriage and death dates.

Beatrice and Ruth married 2 brothers. Beatrice married Joe Stedman (sometimes Steadman) who was born in Dartford Kent in 1911. They had no children and lived in Kent all their lives.

Ruth married Hector Maurice Stedman born in Swanscombe Kent in 1903. They had a daughter Sheila born about 1933.

I am going round in circles trying to find any information and ending up nowhere !!

Can anyone help me?

Angela
