This is a confusing one the family surname has been changed three times over the last five generations,
Im a Donachie, my father born a Chamley and changed to Donachie, my grandfather a Chamley, my great grandfather was born a Vicary but his name was changed to Chamley when his father died and the mother re-married to a George Chamley who was born Poona East Indies, i know this chap died 01/12/1900 London but have no other info on him, he married Ellen Jane Taylor but do not know when.
And how would i find out more infomation about George Chamley as he was not born in this country ie birth details and when and how he arrived to England.

This is all very weird
Ellen married George 1873, but her first husband didnt die until 1908 and Francis and his twn sister were'nt born until 1880 and have the mother and Vicary as their parents so what was going on? married to George but still seeing first husband maybe?

If that's your George in 1841, need to start there and come forward I think

Can't seem to find George!!

No wrong twins.
Mine are: Francis Bryant Warren Vicary and Frances Edwina Warren Vicary born 3rd September 1880,
Mother- Ellen Jane Vicary nee Taylor
Father- Allen Thomas James Vicary.

I also have George Chamley's death cert here and it states he died 1st Dec 1900 widow Ellen Jane Chamley.

This is all very confusing

Ok that looks like George's family yes 100%
But something is still not right i have all the birth marriage and death certs here and cant sum anything up

is this George's widow? If so, that wouldn't have been her marrying him in 1873 as she would only have been 11!

Thomas John Vicary was her first husband married 1878 they had the twins Francis and Frances in 1880, first husband died 1908 and Ellen re-marries Chamley but we have second marriage as 1873 Blackburn so are the dates wrong somewhere.

Just looking at George Chamley's death cert and it states on there place of death Grays Inn Lane, look at the last 1901 census you just posted to me for Ellen Jane Taylor it has the same District.

Just had a look back. Think you should probably disregard marriage in 1873. Don't think it is connected and is just confusing things.

This is Ellen's husband in 1881, back at home, but married. Perhaps they split up before the 1881 census and never got back together.

The twins are not son and daughter to Ann as i have their birth certs and this has been ruled out already.

If Ellen Jane never married George Chamley then why does it say in the 1891 census that Francis is said to be an adopted son living with George and where is the twin sister living if not with them.

I would guess the twins really are kids of Ann. I'ld also guess that Ann is really Ellen. I haven't seen the image, but I'ld guess there was a transcription error, either by the enumerator copying Ellen's details into the book, or else by the LDS volunteer who keyed in the census details from the book.

I have just found some information today which may be nothing or could be something, i was looking for passenager lists on google and came across a Chamley Unknown (male) departure yr 1893, Port London, to Destination country India, Destination Port bombay,

Could this be a match with any of my Chamley's

I wondered if someone could tell me how i would find out or could even have a look for me
