Many thanks for looking. I think that's probably him. |

I know that I've asked for help before on this one but was hoping that someone may have some new ideas as to where I can search. I've been looking for the past 2 years and it's driving me nuts! |

Many thanks for that. From the marriage certificate it seems that his father's name was also John (Jean). We know nothing about him only that he was a gentleman's servant. We really are stuck as we don't know where he was born and can't find any trace of him on any census. We'll certainly try some of the sites you've suggested. |

With a name like Jacques, I'm guessing his name wasn't originally John. Jean seems much more likely. If you've got his marr cert, you'll know his dad, and can confirm or refute this is him on the 1852 census at: |

Hi Susan, that's the marriage. I know that Caroline died in 1878. They had 4 children. Caroline (1865-1870), William Henry (1866), George (1870-1952) and my great grandfather Edwin (1874-1947). Edwin was usually known as Edward. |

The Marylebone one looks promising. Think I'll have to invest in a certificate! |

There were quite a large number of Jacques (Jaques) living in the Nottingham, Derbyshire area and so far we haven't found any connection to them. I'd be suprised if he moved from the London area but anything's possible as I'm finding out! |

I've tried several other spellings including Jaques and Jakes. Also looked into the iron foundry business at the time and it was flourishing in the area. Often there were small foundries attached to ironmongers shops so I think he was still in the area, maybe not Battersea but probably London. |

I'm trying to find the death reg. of my great great grandfather. His name was John Jacques and he was born in Lower Canadain c1836. He moved to the UK sometime before 1860 and I have found his marriage to Caroline Lewis. I have also found him on the 1891 census living in Battersea, London. After that I can't track him down. Any help appreciated. |
