Hi,
yes I have been doing this for a few years now. The sites I use most are Scotland'sPeople, Ancestry.com and FamilySearch (LDS). I also use Google, FindMyPast, FreeCen and FreeBMD. There are some smaller sites that are useful for local areas.......and it is also possible in Scotland to visit local registrar's offices and for a fee (in Perth where I live £10) they will search for as many records as they can in an hour. They wont print them off however so you have to write it all down.

More information the parish of Kilmaronock Dunbartonshire ceased to exist in 1975. Kilmarnock is I believe still in Ayrshire.
I don't know what happened to Anna I just can't find her anywhere. I looked at emigration records to Canada but couldn't find anything to fit so unless she married prior to leaving Scotland I can't find her going there either

Thanks again Aileen

Dumbarton And Ayrshire used to have different boundaries back then,Kilmarnock now comes under Glasgow,But back then it was Ayrshire. I have traced back all the mentiond ancestors,The only Mystery I have is what happend to My Grandads Sister Anna McCallum.

P.S. You are good at all this!! Have you been doing it for long? What sites do you use to trace people?

Regards

Births for Annie's parents in case you want them

GEORGE MC CALLUM

Event(s):
Birth:
26 FEB 1864 Balfron, Stirling, Scotland

Parents:
Father: WILLIAM MC CALLUM
Mother: ISABELLA MC LAREN

MARY MCCALLUM

Event(s):
Birth:
10 MAR 1872 Fortingall, Perth, Scotland

Parents:
Father: GEORGE MCCALLUM
Mother: ANN STEWART

1890 MCCALLUM GEORGE MCCALLUM MARY KILMARONOCK /DUNBARTON

Found this record of marriage between Annie's parents as well and it pointed out the fact that the family are Kilmaronock based, which is a place in Dunbarton and different from Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. Hillhead, which you mentioned as being in Kilmarnock is actually in Kilmaronock , Mary's brother George was living there at the time his daughter, also called Annie, was born. May be that your Grandad's sister was actually born in Dunbartonshire , not Ayrshire as previously believed, though it would appear that if the record above is your Grandad's birth then he was born in Ayrshire. No matching records for him having been born in Dunbartonshire.
All very confusing, I didn't even know Kilmaronock existed, but hopefully a bit clearer now.

PS there is a place called Shewalton House in Dundonald, Ayrshire, could that be where your Grandad was born?

Is this is your Grandad?

Although the name you're looking for is Anna, this could be a variation on ... Ann / Anne / Hannah.

Ann being a very common name with make it even more difficult to find.

It would be helpful if you knew roughly when she was born.

As Aileen pointed out, births online only go up to 1909 so you would need to go through to the GRO in Edinburgh or Glasgow Genealogy Centre to check the following years.

Not always possible - depending where you live.

Thank you again Aileen.

Yeah her name was Anna,But we know very little of her, apart from she was born in Ayrshire. I Did manage to find one Anna McCallum,But it does not make any sence as her mum would have been only 10 or 11 years old when she was born. It does also seem to be a possible match with the place of birth with my Grandad and her. She was born in a place whitch i think was called Shieling Lodge in Ayr,(the writing is very faint) and my Grandad was born in a place called Shewallan House? It could possibly be the same place!!

Thank you once again Aileen

Best regards

Hi,
I have looked at possible births for Anna McCallum between 1908 and 1928 there were only 4

1 1920 MCCALLUM ANNA BRYCE F KELVIN GLASGOW/LANARK

DIED 1921

2 1908 MCCALLUM ANNA MCEWEN MCB F MORNINGSIDE EDINBURGH/MIDLOTHIAN

3 1928 MCCALLUM ANNA MILNE F FETTERESSO /KINCARDINE

4 1923 MCCALLUM ANNA SMULDES F DRYFESDALE /DUMFRIES

DIED 1945

Unfortuately it's only possible to view records pre 1909 on-line. I don't think any of these look very promising........are you certain her name was Anna?

I found her....Thank you for your help!! I don.t know how i managed to over look her.. All i have to do now is try and find her daughter Anna McCallum. She Dissapeared when my grandfather was young. Does anyone know how i can try and trace her birth I don't know where she was born but my grandad (Edward McCallum) was born in 1929 in Kilmarnock or Ayr.

Ps On my Grandads Birth Cert there is no father mentiond only My Great Grans x. Mark. I think this may also be the case with Anna.

Any leads would be Greatfully appreciated.

It is a bit of a family mystery, her partner was Joseph Moorhead and i don't think they were married. My Grandad always reffered to him as his dad but on Josephs death Cert it states that he was his step son. My grandad also had a sister that disappeared!! Her name was Anna McCallum and he thinks she might have immegrated to canada.

I am trying to find out my Great Grans place of Death and date of death. I have been trying on scotlands people and i have just hit a dead end. She was born on 05/10/1892 at Hillhead in Kilmarnock. And she then moved to Hamilton where she lived with Joseph Moorhead.

Could smeone please help me try and find out why i cannot find any trace of her death.

Thanks.
