Tracey and Erin Thank you for all your help so far. I am going to go onto scotlands people and download birth cert etc and see if I can get any other information. I found out from my cousin that one of my grandfathers brothers worked beside my uncle when he was young but when my gran found out she made him quite his job. That was the last time my uncle saw any of his fathers family. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again Ruthxx

Ruth..I have checked out areas in Ireland for the Mack/s surname and although I expected it to be mainly the Counties of the North.. eg Tyrone,Derry etc. I was suprised to find the surname very evident in the Countes Clare Tipp.and Cork. I also found the surname recorded way back in the 1700s for Paston Norfolk...(monied people..Drapers and Linen.) The children's names that Wayne/Tracy listed last night corrospond with the ones I sent from the 1881 Census...the only one missing was Margaret..I tried cross ref. a "Margaret b 1857 Kilbarchan" as she may have been married by 1881 but nothing came back for Scottish Lowlands..

Ruth....I have done an extraction search for "Mack..Ireland" and there were 51 listed for the Scottish Lowlands on the 1881 Census....none living in the Kilbarchan area..you state your g.grandmother came over to Scotland from Ireland...you will need to put what info.you already have supporting this on the board ...there are also dozens of Deans from Ireland.

Tracey I wonder if it would be worthwhile in trying to find out were the deans name originated? When I was looking into my mothers maternal side I found out that her grandmother came over from Ireland during the potatoe famine. I wonder if the deans name came from England or Ireland? Well I am logging out for tonight as I have to be in work early tomorrow. Thanks again for all your help will let you know if I find out more Ruthx

Tracey Thank you so much. Although i have been trying to find info on my mothers family I have been working blind. It didn't help that I was also trying to do my fathers at the same time and then my husband got interested and I tried to help him with his family. At one point i was getting confused whose wife was whose. Ruthx

Hi Tracey My GGgrandfather name was also Andrew. The information came from my mother brother via his son. I had asked him when I first started the search but he wouldn't give me any info but unknown to him i have been pleading with my cousin to try and find out. This he did when his daughter had to do a family tree for her school and as she is the apple of her grandfathers eye he wrote down what he knew and has just passed onto myself. He emailed me at the weekend but I didn't go into my emails until tonight. I will go onto Scotland web site and get the information you have found. Thank you so much Ruthx

You've now added a GGGrandfather.... what was his name?
We need as much as you have so we don't repeat info you already have.
Your first ost implied you didn't know further back than William Fergus's birth, infact you know a fair bit more than that!
I will help all i can but i need full information...including all names and dates!

Thanks Tracey My great grandfather c 1855 married Mary Turner My great great grandfather c1830 married Margaret Mack I have been unable to find death cert for either sets of grandparents or any mention of any other children. I have been trying to find any information since last year as my mum wanted to find out more about her fathers family and as she had dementia I was trying to find out as much as possible, she was so happy that I found out about her great grandparents but then came up against a brick wall. Everytime she asked I told her I was trying as hard as possible. Unfortunately my mum passed away very unexpectedly at the end of march but I promised that I would still keep on looking. Ruth

Is this him?
1905 DEANS WILLIAM FERGUS M KILBARCHAN /RENFREW 568/01 0062
Born 4th october 1905 at 20 Steeple Street, Kilbarchan. If this is the case his father was...
Andrew Deans a Slater and his mother Mary Turner(image not very clear)
his parents married June 21st 1897 in Kilbarchan.
All this info is available on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. It's a credit pay search site. The credits are fairly cheap and you can view the certs immediately, as i have done.

Came up against a brick wall. trying to find my mothers fathers family. I know they lived in New Street in Kilbarchan and that they were members of the order of the templer. My grandfathers name was William Fergus Deans and I know he had a brother James as well as other siblings. My mother was young when he died and my gran refused my mother any contact with her fathers family, she even dropped the s of my grandfathers surname. Can anyone tell me were to go from here. I have went back to Kilbarchan but have been unable to find out anymore information Ruth
