Wishing Report 7 Aug 2009 18:14

I have been asked to do the near impossible and I need a lot of help and advice please.
I have no longer access to the census with exception of the 1881.
My godmother was born late 1918 registered 1919. Her name is Elsie Goodlad and is still alive. She was born illegitametly as was her mother Kate Goodlad b 1898.
Kate was the daughter of Jessie Goodlad b 1877. All Doncaster.

So we have
Jessie 1877
Kate 1898
Elsie 1919
All with the surname Goodlad
Elsie has always believed her father was Harry Lang.
At the begining of the WW1 both Kate and Jessie went to work in Bradford at Listers Mill.
Harry Lang was staying with them at the time. Elsie was hence born.
Where they lived in Conisbrough the Lang family lived I think very near or next door.
It is also believed Harry Lang was very near to Jessies age.
Could some kind person have a look at the census of 1901 please to see if they are in Conisbrough and if there is a Harry Lang.
I have been asked to locate Harry Langs death cert.
I hope this is clear
Thank you.

No names of father are given on birth cert and I have no idea when Harry died just that Elsie who is still alive could remember him when she was 5yrs old making it 1923 when he was still alive.

Have you tried electoral rolls?

There is nothing on Ancestry in their transcribed listings. Now means going through individual records quarter by quarter year by year.

Unless anyone knows or has access to another site which has transcribed deaths???

Why don't you take out 14 day free Ancestry trial (would be very time consuming)

Good luck

You will need to go to Conisbrough library and know the address.

There are very few Langs in Doncaster district on FreeBMD.

It seems odd Kate met Harry in Bradford yet he came back to Conisbrough and they never married.

With a name like Lang he could have been Irish or Scottish.
