I have received a marriage cert for Winifred and James Holgate 1874 in Halifax, father Patrick Raftery, deceased, a farmer. She was Winifred Priestley on cert. I have found that marriage to a Benjamin Priestley, and found her in 1861 in Batley aged 16, as Winifred Raftery from Roscommon, Ireland. I have been on a lot of Irish web sites trying to find her father.
Any help to find him would be appreciated. I would love to find her roots.

Regards
Maggie

Hello, Have you tried 'Irish census records'? You may have missed it but payment is required-I was lucky I did find my info.

Thanks for your reply Missnell, appreciate it...but Winifred was born c.1848, so father Patrick probably 1820 ish. I haven't found an Irish census that covers that period, unless I am missing something??
Can you tell me where I would find it ?
Regards

Maggie..Have found a Patrick RAFRY aged 40 (Roscommon) plus family living Upper Rd.Dewsbury all his children were born Batley Carr...wonder if he was Winifred brother....??
How old was she when she married BP...she would have had to her her Fathers permission/ Guardian (usually the eldest brother/ paternal uncle) this would be in the Marriage Register at Church.

I havent actually bought this marriage cert as I have the other one of her later marriage, which gave me the name of her father. But I think it may be needed now, as there may be some clues with the witnessess, and the name of the church.
Thanks for your help Erin, I appreciate it. I will order the cert from the GRO and take a look at these census images
