Fiona...
Cargalisgorran and Keady are in the RC Parish of Derrynoose South Armagh.
The old records have been digitalised by Armagh Ancestry but as it is probable the records for the time your are wanting are still held in the Church...
Keady RC Church
Keady
Co.Armagh

Fiona...If your mother was born in Keady then you may find her Baptism Record and details at the RC Church in either Cargalisgorran/Keady...

Im trying to find the two people who witnessed my grandparents wedding to see if they or any of their family could fill in any gaps abouts them?
John Coffey and Mary Carmody's wedding was witnessed on the 25/09/1952 by a Denis Harrington and Bridget Driscoll.

Do any of these names ring any bells?

Kay

Sent for the Certificate and it Shows that they were married on the 25/09/1952 at the R.C Church of Kenmare.

It also shows my Grandmothers full name as Mary Bridget Carmody. Which makes alot of sense as my mother was told, years after leaving the home that a girl named Bridget Carmody who also lived there was her half sister.

Frustratingly it doesnt give a D.O.B, it just says full and their dwelling place only shows as being Kenmare.
Their fathers names show as being Daniel Coffey and Denis Carmody.
My Grandfather shows as being a labourer but both my great grandfathers and my grandmother show as being itinerants so this could explain all the travelling.

Thank you so much for all your help, dont really know where to go from here now but i at least have made a step in the right direction.

For Eire, there's an alternative to buying the certificate, and that's to buy an UNCERTIFIED copy of the registration - it has exactly the same info, but costs 40% less.

Now....do order the certificate......and trace back.

I requested a search in northern ireland for a marriage between john and mary coffey nee carmody and they couldnt find anything, so it looks like they got married in the south.

The Kenmare Record could well be them but i dont know how i would find out for sure, as my mam was raised in an orphanage and all we have is her birth cert.

Any ideas??

Kay

Kay Report 14 Aug 2009 13:23

Norah's birth index shows the mother's maiden name as Carmody.
You would need to view actual certificate to be 100% sure.

Good luck in your search.

Kay thank you so much. This could well be them, this was two yrs before my mam was born so it makes sense. My mam was born in armagh though so they woul have travelled up there then come back when they put her in the orphanage.
Is Norah definately their child|?
