Original census records for 1851

It's not on Ancestry, but is on FMP.
"The records for the Manchester, Chorlton, Salford, Oldham and Ashton-Under-Lyne registration districts were water damaged many years ago due to flooding.

As a result many were too fragile to be filmed or no writing was visible, but a 14 year project by the Manchester and Lancashire Family History Society (MLFHS) has recovered information from around 82 per cent of the damaged records."

Sorry-going out now,so I can't have a look.

If PollyPoppet wasn't looking at the original image, I wouldn't trust the transcription. Obviously if they're not easy to find on Ancestry & you say the image is light it's a tricky one.

Which website are you getting your info from? If you can't cut & paste can you give us the volume & page number just by typing.

Don't worry, if I can do it anybody can! I was told how to do this on here. Very useful skill to have - I now use it for all sorts of stuff, and you can paste things onto your own documents in wordpad or similar.

If you're looking at a National Archives original image then its on a label, possibly right-hand side of page.

Are you sure it's the 1851 census? Can't find this family.

The reference number is usually at the bottom or side of the image.

If you have the census transcript you can cut and paste it - just do this if you don't know:

hold left mouse button down and drag over page, it will turn blue
release mouse button
right-click on page
left click on "copy"
reply on here
right click in reply box
left click on "paste"

Then we can see what you have found!
