Julie 2 - I forgot to thank you for this!

Julie 1 - you were saying today you couldn't find incoming or outgoing voyages. Julie has put the details of the incoming here. I forget whether I found the outgoing at FMP ... yes, 1927, all of them ...

There was also this...

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960 about Dorothy Annetts
Name: Dorothy Annetts
Birth Date: abt 1896
Age: 33
Port of Departure: Montrã©AL, Quã©Bec, Canada
Arrival Date: 13 May 1929
Port of Arrival: London, England
Ports of Voyage: Quebec, Southampton
Ship Name: Calgaric
Search Ship Database: View the 'Calgaric' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Shipping Line: White Star Line
Official Number: 140579

But it is the same as the other even the Port of Arrival: lists Southampton, England

Typing on the doc. is clearer though.

News from Julie -- and a request for a lookup in Ancestry's inbound UK passenger database -- I found that there are records, but I don't have the right sub.

From FMP outbound passengers database:

ANNETTS Dorothy 1897 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Francis 1897 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Francis 1925 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Joyce 1927 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Kathleen 1924 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Rosetta 1920 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax
ANNETTS Vera 1922 1927 Southampton Canada Halifax

Julie has learned that the family spent time in Alberta, Canada.

The incoming passenger lists to the UK do show Francis and Dorothy and the rest arriving England -- it looks like twice each, London and Southampton. Could be same voyage, multiple ports of call for the ship? I dunno. I only see one outbound trip at FMP though.

So if anybody can provide the details of the inbound to England voyages, Julie will be grateful!

There's nothing to match from 1984 to 2005. It's statistically unlikely that she lived to 1984. ;)

It shouldn't be long before Ancestry has a searchable deaths index up to 1983. It will be possible to search by first name / date of birth then. Not much to do but wait for that, it seems!

Hi Janey

I have searched the death records from 1936 up to 1983 for Dorothy LE ANNETTS , Gedge and Rennie but still have not found her ?

I can only go up to 1983 on GR , will Ancestry take me any further,

Thank You

Julie

Who left whom, we don't know.

But by 1929, Dorothy was with someone else.

I don't want to tell you off, I just don't understand what is so difficult about this. (We really have been over it and over it.)

It's the sort of thing that happened all the time. Ordinary people didn't have access to divorce. The marriage broke down, they went their separate ways, sometimes they formed partnerships and households, and had kids with, another person.

It could even be that Mr. Annetts died, and it was the other man who wasn't free to marry Dorothy because he had a living wife.

If you get the birth certificates of one of those last three children, as I have suggested over and over, you will see who the parents are.

(She was Gedge when she married Annetts.)

Sigh, Julie, I've tried and tried to explain it ...

Dorothy's last three children were registered under *two different surnames*.

This means that she had formed a household with another man after separating from her husband. The other man was the father of her last three children, but they had to be registered with her husband's surname, by law. But because she and her new partner were a genuine family, the children were also registered under his surname.

She was living with another man!!! And she was registering her children with that man's surname!!!

So clearly -- SHE was using that surname in the community too!!!

It is some coincidence that her oldest daughter (her husband's daughter) married a man with that surname -- as I said, I suspect he was a stepbrother, or another relation of the stepfather.

Can you say what you don't understand about this??

Remember the other surname, Julie?

She may not have formally married, but she and her second partner obviously lived together for some time, so my bet would be that her death was registered under that surname.

Of course, the bit of useful information you don't mention is that her last known child was born in 1935. So she was alive at that time. Just in case someone did want to take on the tedious job of searching the deaths index!

When there's no urgent reason for finding a death, that's a job I always figure someone can do for themself. The 14-day free trial subscription to Ancestry would take care of it nicely!

It makes no sense to start a new thread, where people will just be wanting the info that's in that one.

The only way to find a death after 1930ish and before 1984, at the moment, is to download the untranscribed images at FreeBMD, which is a tedious process, or Ancestry, which is less tedious.

Is annetts her married or maiden name? If she married then her death record would reflect that.
