I found Alexander on 1901 townland of Beltony. I also have a copy of house and buildings return for Beltony in 1901. There are 2 Spence families, Alexander Sn. and John his son. He was married to Susanna McCool, they had 6 children by then, Isabella, Alexander, William, Susan, Mary J, and John. Then going on to have Eliza, Thomas and James. One died and I think it was james. |

Yes, he was the son of Mary Jane and Alexander. He was on the census 1901 age 40, but he should have been 44. A strange age to emigrate. I thought it was only women who took a few years of their age. |

Alison...Have just been having alook back and realise I misread some info.re Alex.(son of David)..I thought he was Born 1849 from what you had found from St.Eunans Reg. but realise now that was the date of his marriage to Mary Jane Hamilton...therefore the Alex.in Milltown (1857) Griffiths Valuation may well be him.... |

I found that Alexander was married in 1849 to Mary Jane Hamilton. They were Church of Ireland, St Eunan's Cathedral Raphoe. I think he may have been born around 1828 as full age is given on the marriage cert, of course he could have been born a number of years before that. If David and Elizabeth who was in Braehead Raphoe and had Mary 1838 and then moved to Milltown and had Jane in 1840. I noted that Frances (Fanny) Spence was full age when she married 1856 so she could have been born 1835. When David came to Raphoe he had a son Alexander aged 10 or older and a daughter aged approx. 3. If Alexander was born in the late 20s then there could be more children between Alexander and Frances. I do have a death cert for Elizabeth and John her son was present. 1883. Holmestown, but not sure as it is not recored in Raphoe. |

I got the info. from the Church in Raphoe. It gave Alexander 1849 and Frances 1856 marriages. It gave birth of Mary 1838 Breahead Raphoe and Jane 1840 Miltown Raphoe. I know that David remained in Milltown until his death 1872. I think that David had other children. He must have moved to the Raphoe area for work. I just don't know where to start to look for him. If I could get where Alexander was baptised, that should help. |

I am trying to find David Spence from Donegal Ireland. I think he was born in Donegal. He had some children born there. I think he was born around 1799 and died 1872. He had Alexander, Frances, Mary and Jane. I am sure he had others. His wife may have been Elizabeth. |
