Meanwhile, there's no Ernest Hall or Stevenson in 1901 to match.

There are more twins than you expect!


I wondered about daughter Charlotte, who married in 1894, e.g. Could have had Ernest before marrying. But that doesn't account for him in 1891.

There's no male Embrough marriage anytime reasonable before 1886 (and I've tried wildcard searches ...).


Nothing for it but to get the certificates, I think!

That family in 1881, wonder if Abraham is Ernest's grandfather or possibly father although Emma might be a bit too old. I bet they are related somehow.

Where does your belief about the Jones marriage come from, Geoffrey?

It doesn't seem to be at FreeBMD.


In any event, it seems that to go farther you need his marriage and/or birth certificate -- preferably the birth cert which will give both parents' names, but you'd need the marriage certificate to match the father's name.

I have found ernest embrough birth and his marriage in 1921 but i do belive he married a kate matilda jones in 1903 but i dont seem to be able to find this he does not seem to be in any of the census . i think around this time he may have been living in chetenham.

Here, he's a little problematic.
