Considered that death too.

Ah. Daughter Alice is in Kent in 1901.

Name: Alice Bannister
Age: 5
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1896
Relation: Niece
Where born: Croydon, Surrey, England

Civil parish: Southborough
Registration district: Tonbridge

Should have asked, I guess -- it's facts like that, that you know and we don't, that can help to assess things that are found ...

Tried every wildcard name for Bannister I can think of -- Bam*ter, Bar*ter, Ban*ter -- found an Alice Bamister, but she's married to a Richard in Lancashire. ;)

Death or emigration, dunno, feeling defeat on this one.

bighen, Alice Sr has been found in 1891.

I was checking the census image as choccy was posting the details.

It does say FIRMINGER, not Fenninger.

Just a reminder - in your OP, you said:
"I can find Alice the daughter in 1891 and 1901 with relatives"

Can't find Alice in 1891 if she wasn't born until 1896, you see.

Is it possible he had emigrated and it didn't take? Happened with my gr-grparents for the 1891 census; they went to Australia in 1887 and returned home in 1894.

I don't have access to details for incoming passenger lists at Ancestry, but there are several Mr S Bannisters and a Sidney in the list. Might be worth a look.

Hi Choccy ,

That one is a possable as they are always wrong spellings of the name.

JaneyCanuck Report 26 Sep 2009 20:39

Was just checking the image on that one, choccy!

Knowing what you're looking for, it does say FIRMINGER, and it says Single, kitchen maid.

(Oh urgh, I'd got it in my head they were married by 1891 ... may be one of those days when I should go home and watch teevee ...)

No i don't but can't seem to find a death either.

They were still alive in 1896 as their daughter Alice was born ,i don't know if she had siblings

Do you have them in 1911 -- i.e. are you sure they were still living by 1891?

bighen Report 26 Sep 2009 20:09

I need help to find Alice Firminger dob 1868 born Hartfield Sussex and Sidney Bannister dob 1866 born Forest Row ,Sussex.

They married in 1893 and had a daughter Alice in 1896 in Croydon.
I can find Alice the daughter in 1891 and 1901 with relatives .So i am trying to find out where her parents were in 1891 and 1901.

I do have them both on all the other censuses but not these two.

Hope you can help ,Pam
