Diahann Report 8 Oct 2009 06:50

Hi Julie,
he was named Matthew Tomich at birth and was adopted aged 3 by the Lillia family when the Tomich family migrated to Australia and they changed his name to Herbert Charles Lillia, which is the name he used his whole life and the name Lillia given to further generations. I don't know if the other siblings were kept or adopted out also

Hi Julie.

Yes, i saw the WW11 listing for MATE TOMICH.

There was another marriage of a MAT TOMICH but in 1914 W.A
TOMICH MAT Dist:BOULDER Ref:40 M 1914 SVICAROVICH ANA

Diahann says her M.TOMICH was born 1901 Yugoslavia, so to young to married in 1914.....unless his birth date was well before 1901?

Given name of MAT ( Meaning )

MAT: Variant spelling of English "Matt", meaning "gift of God."
MATT: Short form of English "Matthew", meaning "gift of God."

This MAT TOMICH could be the Matthew TOMICH that you are looking for, but he would have to be born a little earlier than 1901 to marry in 1914.

Cheers. Tony...:>))

Diahann,

It might be better if we can work our way back to your Gr Grandfather.

As an adult, which name did he use, Lillia or Tomich ?

Which name did he use when he married, which name did his children use ?

His childrens marriage certificate should have his first name (if it was changed from Matthew when he was adopted.)

Their birth certificate should definitely have his full name .

You may have to buy some certificate to be able to get back to your gr Grandfather
