Find Ancestors

As far as the marriage of ROBERT and LUCY is concerned I would be very surprised if they didn't marry as all the MESHER's were devout catholic church goers. Over here on the island all descendants were churchgoers too , although ROBERT was a convert. I'm not sure how to proceed any further about finding their marriage. Maybe they broke with tradition and just lived together after all.

Looking at the information and the 1841 census I think Mary was either a single mother or she had married a Denton
Why it seems that Robert used the name Denton is a mystery unless they never married and because the rest of the family used Denton he just followed on.

I'm new to this and hesitated asking for help in the first place. All I asked for was help in finding the marriage of ROBERT DENTON CURRY and LUCY EMMA MESHER.Thanks for all your help from a stupid 68 year old woman.

Wish you had put that info on your first posting and then we would have known who we were looking for instead of spending hours looking for the wrong people!

I have looked for marriages for both Roberts but have found nothing.

You are correct. ROBERT junior was too young to have been marrried before he met LUCY EMMA MESHER. I think MARY DENTON (his mother)died in 1857 in Pancras as she was not on the 1861 census. Her daughter MARY ANN DENTON moved to the i.o.w. and never married but on her death certificate in 1909 she was MARY ANN CURRY

I would say it was Mary Denton living with Robert Curry (born about 1801)
and as they were not married Robert Junior surname Denton, which is how he became Denton Curry.

So, are you saying this is Robert's first wife? Would assume he was still married then, and never married Lucy.

On this census they don't call themselves Curry.

ROBERT DENTON CURRY b 1838 in Mintlyn. Norfolk. I have his birth certificate.

On 1841 census :
ROBERT CURRY farmer age40, MARY DENTON age35, MARY ANN DENTON,15. ELEANOR DENTON 14, ROBERT DENTON3. This was in Mintlyn.

IN 1851 in pancras he becomes Robert Denton 51 sailor
Mary Denton 41 Laundress
Robert son 12.
So you see it's a right muddle.
In 1863 ROBERT DENTON CURRY age63 died in Pancras.

Have you found Robert on a census before 1871 ? Maybe he was already married when he met Lucy Emma.

I have these on my tree.

I was stuck going back to Lucy and Robert's marriage. They were my Great Grandparents. The Currys and Meshers are proving a headache!

Still at least it makes the hunt for information more interesting.
