Hi Quinsgran,
I wish!!! I am rapidly coming to the conclusion they are just not there. I have tried everything I know, Knowing my great grandmother survived I have many times put her first name in (Ruth) and birth detailes and searched page after page even though surprisingly there arn't that many Ruths.
As I have said before I am baffled!!!!!!!

I wonder if the family have been mistranscribed under a neighbours name.

I found a family once for a member who had been looking for a year. The father had a middle name Lawrence. On only one census he said he was from Paddington.

Using first name only and Paddington I found the family transcribed as Laurence. Member was over the moon

Hi K,
I have trawled through the images once and I e-mailed NA to see if there were pages missing, there was 1 page but they checked for me and said the family wasn't there, I have also trawled through images for Maer & Whitmore Staffs where Elizabeth was at the time with know luck. So I am baffled!!!!
Thank you for your interest Gill x

No I don't think Fed.. means farm but I did think that maybe Llanfair was the shortened version of the village name and Fed..(or however it reads) could be the name of the farm - Just a thought

I remember looking into this last time and didn't get anywhere, but will relook. I could find no sign of her in 1861 or the majority of the children. I would have thought Ruth would have been easier to find with a relatively unusual name. I wonder if its worth a search of the Ellesmere Port images but there may be too many

I missed something there are you saying Fed means farm or have I misread that?

If you look at the Old Maps site there is only one Llanfair in Montgomery - Llanfair Caereinion. I wonder if it was shortened to Llanfair and Fed?? was the farm. Just a thought. Did you know her maiden name?

Looking at the image it appears to be Tedro - but that isn't helping either.

Hi Somerset Girl,
Thank you for taking the trouble. I believe Llanfair is a common name meaning something, but I forget what now, but does anyone know FEDW means ??

If its any comfort I know where my Roberts family come from in Dolgellau but the Record Office has nothing that confirms their baptims or father's name!! A challenge it certainly is!

Hi,
Yes that is what I am thinking, as yet though I can't find a marriage for her, it's like searching for a needle in a hay stack, I am still checking Cheshire and Staffs, can't find anything on IGI.

I have been battling with this family for years, it's a challenge I can tell you. below is the family on 1851 census. My grt grandmother Ruth was born 1854. Father John dies 1855. GRO have done a search from 1854 /1862 for death of mother Sarah and can't find one. The only one I can find on 1861 census is eldest child Elizabeth a servant in Staffs going by the name Betsey. 1871 I can find Elizabeth married to Henry Phillips , Ruth a servant in Staffs and John (son) a canal Boatman Tunstall S-o-t. So where are they in 1861??
