Find Ancestors

I believe that James Thomas Newton Bayliss
was my G G Grandfather from his son's marriage cert. He was bap at Walsall but married at St George/Martyr, Southwark 1814 where his first child was also baptised over 20 years before my G Grandfather was born. I cannot find the other children baptised between those years but am currently working through various churches at the LMA.
My main problem is that I cannot find any of the family in the 1841/51/61 census's as they may be transcribed. Has anybody any idea how to find them at all?

If you have the 1871 census then can you post the details as it would help us to help you

Do you mean he was born in 1814 or married then? Also, childrens name could be of huge help in locating them on censuses. Wifes name too.

Tree on Ancestry has him born 1794 Walsall but make no mention of possible marriage or any children

I have never found JTNBayliss in the 1871. I don't have access here but at the library but even my G Grandfather's family in the 1881 was mistranscribed as Boyliss. I believe JTN Bayliss would have been passed away by 1871 as baptised 1794. His wife died 1854 at Camberwell.

Thanks Paul, I had overlooked that important detail. G G Grandmother was Mary Jane Packson when they married in 1814. First son (that I know of) was Alfred James Bayliss baptised 29 Dec, 1816. I have found through a church marriage cert, William James born around 1822. They, along with my G Grandfather, George James/Lawrence Bayliss are the only children I can be sure of. Jim

The family you have found are indeed my G Grandparents and family. What I am after now is Georges father and his family to go sideways. I have tried every mistranscribed name I could think of but have obviously missed the vital one. I have Emma's family. Jim

Strange it says British Subject for George's birth place,could this mean they had been living abroad and that is the reason you can't find them.

It is a little mystery why George says British Subject. I don't believe he was abroad at all. In the earlier census's he claims to have been born at Tower or Tower Hill. I have tried all the churches in the area and have given up on looking for his birth at the moment, instead trying to concentrate on his siblings and father. Once I have something of them to go on, I might do better. Jim

Hello Ellen,
Thank you for your input. I do have Alfred James Bayliss baptism in 1816 so do not believe that the Shoreditch one or the criminal record one are mine as their dob's are not right. I may be wrong of course.
What I am after is to find the family on a census and believe that either 1841 or 1851 are my best hope but have thus far drawn a blank despite putting into the indexes every variation on the name I can think of.
Unfortunately I am a little challenged in the computer department and cannot find the Bayliss 'page' on the site you gave me. I can get into some of it just not Bayliss in the UK.
As it happens I cannot find how to get this appeal to the front of the list again either. I thought you just added a 'nudge' but obviously I am mistaken.
