John Cotter born in 1888. He would have been 20 or 21 when he married Ruth Lloyd. Is there a James and JOhanna in the ealier census. Polly Cotter could have been the mother. |

Yeah ages werent often given correctly and there is also a 'john' with her, hes listed as 3yrs but he could be the John you have for 1884...without certificates its always going to be a guess |

The daughter of the first marriage is still alive. I dont think the Johanna is the right Cotter. |

Certainly the date seems about right. Perhaps the story I was told wasn't quite right! Cant have been that many Cotters living to that age in Plymouth. Is there a death for John W Cotter anywhere around 1950ish Could have been Dartmoor, Isle of Wight or London I guess. |

No havent got the marriage certificate yet. Only just found he is a relation. He married my great aunt Annie Axworthy ne Swift in sept 1918 in Plymouth after her first husband Fred axworthy died. |
