Hi All, I'm having terrible trouble trying to unravel who my nan's father was. My nan Elizabeth Ann Walker born 21/7/1896 n west ham. Her birth cert states mother: Ada Walker (formely Horsted), father Walter Walker. Her mariage cert of 1920 states father as James Albert Walker (deceased) proffession Fishmonger. I can't find the marriage of Ada & Walter. Any help would be appreciated as im at a standstill.

At the first attempt, the only marriage of an Ada HORSTED that I can find is to an Albert Frederick WALKER West Ham District Sep 1890 4a 104

Are you sure you have the correct birth certificate? Just a thought.

I know this is a daft question, but are you sure it's the right marriage cert? Do you know that she married Richard Ferris?

Maria

Maria Report 9 Nov 2009 20:35

Hi blossom, yes definately right my nan & grandad lived with us up until their deaths and thi is the original cert

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 9 Nov 2009 20:36

Blossom in Essex - you are thinking along the same lines as me! That's why I asked if Christie was sure she has the right birth cert (which she does, having the original).

Wildgoose

Wildgoose Report 9 Nov 2009 20:39

Another thought, if Elizabeth's father died when she was very young, just after the 1901 census was taken, say....would it be feasible that she didn't know his first name.

Probably no use but I am trying all avenues.

choice of marriages
Elizabeth A Walker Ferris Jan-Feb-Mar 1920 West Ham Essex
View Record
Elizabeth A Walker Whistance Oct-Nov-Dec 1920 West Ham Essex
Either one of these could be Elizabeth Ann
So if you are working back you may have wrong birth.
If you are working forward you may have wrong marriage.

I've sat for hours trying to work this out, puzzling about not finding marriage for Ada, all the males mentioned seem to have the right surname - Walker, sounds like my great nan was a bit of 'girl' if you know what i mean!!!

Just one other possibility to consider - in my tree I have at least two women who, when widowed, pretty quickly married their husband's brother.
