Just a thought - any views welcome please!
I have very few London connections and basic Ancestry membership, but I am wondering if extra info is offered by parish records and the like? I have the marriage cert but wonder if there is anything to be gained by asking people to have a look for me? Or is it wasting their time?

Jan, can't find the marriage on Ancestry. In my experience it tends to show exactly the same info as the marriage cert, the marriage cert being a copy of the info in the parish records anyway. More useful for baptisms, I'm having a look for you now to see if I can find any possible children for them. Helen

EDIT - good spot Kattie, I couldn't see it for looking. My little one already bathed and watching in the night garden with daddy, my first break of the day!

Thanks Helen! Before you go to the trouble though need to tell you they did move to Birmingham at some point. If you are happy to look I can see which ones were born in |London.

Many thanks everyone to my "quick query"!!! (No such thing on here is there!)

Jan

PS we need to be careful though - there is a very somilar family lurking about!

Just to push my luck ... I don't suppose anyone would please be kind enough to look for a baptism for Elizabeth Chesterman? She was born about 1822, in London - on one census it is recorded as Kingsland. Her father was Thomas.

Thanks heaps!

Much as I hate to put personal hygiene before family tree research, there does come a time when the family complain, so off for a bath! So not being rude if there are any replies!!

there are these two:

Elizabeth Chesterman Baptism 28 Jan 1816 Thomas Chesterman,

I think out of the 2 that Helen has found the one in 1821 looks the best bet as the abode on the image is given as 'Kingsland'

K

K Report 4 Dec 2009 19:28

On the same image as the 1821 baptism there is another Chesterman baptism on 8 April 1821

Sarah Elizabeth daughter of James (occup. Gardener) and Frances.

Brother of Thomas????

You asked if it was worth looking at the PR image if you already have the certificate.

i'd say 'yes'. One of mine was transcribed on to the GRO as a Matmaker, which didn't really tally with his occ in census. I was imagining an industrial accident and sitting at home making rag mats. The PR image gives VAT maker, which is what he was supposed to be!!!

What I like about the parish records on Ancestry is that on the marriage certs you get to see their signatures - and the signatures of witness who are quite often family. That's lovely.

Well that's the bath over for another year.

Thanks for encouraging me to pester everyone Ginny - very funny that you disappeared!! Just between you and me, I don't think the others minded, in fact I think they have rather enjoyed it.

Seriously, thanks so much everyone. Helen, I think you have got the right baptism in that 2nd one as Londonbelle says - not just the Kingsland ref. but also the year. as her age is consistent throughput all census reports and marriage cert (if only I could find it!!). Many thanks for that.

Kattie, thanks for the mention of the other baptism, will look into it. And thanks too for the advice from Mrs Grumpy and DET. I would love to see the images, but not sure if it's justified in my case.

Folks, might I ask just one more general question please? On Ancestry, does "higher" membership give access to records other than those in London?

And one favour? Please can everyone leave thwre posts on here for about a week? I know we all like to get rid of threads but it will give me chance to sort out the info. Thanks.

If I've missed anything, or anybody, many apologies. I do appreciate all of your input.
