Checked the parish records for a birth of Margaret McLean father James around the time you said and these came up

3 21/02/1853 MCLEAN MARGARET JAMES MCLEAN/MARY WYLIE FR6401 F GLASGOW GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/001 0390 0366 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER
4 19/10/1853 MCLEAN MARGARET JAMES MCLEAN/MARY MCQUILLAN FR680 F CARDROSS /DUNBARTON 494/ 0030 0234 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER

not quite sure where you would go from here though as parish records give no other info than what is on the index

What age does it say she was when she married and where does it say that they were all born in the 1881 census? DO the ages in the census and marriage cert tie up?

Tracing my maternal side, have hit a very sticky situation. It concearns my 2x G Grandmother Margaret McLean.
She married her husband John swan in 1885 in Glasgow and it gave her parents names as being James McLean & Margaret Sutherland. However when looking for her birth cert in or around 1849 I cannot fnd her.
However in the 1881 Scotland Census states that she was the Stepdaughter of a woman called Margaret McLean. So her father James must of been married at least twice.
Cannot find any of his marriages. Nor can I find either Margarets or James birth records.

Quigley Ireland, Scotland Swan Midlothian. Greenock McLean Midlothian O'Hara Midlothian Currie Lanarkshire Clark Argyll
