How do you know she was a widow in 1871? Do you know who her husband was?

Will take another look at the 1881.

Here are 2 possibilities if you take into account her informant didn't know her exact age at death.

Are you able to give us more info such as children, husband, siblings? Does the informant on the death cert give you some clues?

Thank you Ginny, Ozibird & Pdh for the census info on Mary Allen, but somehow I don't see her as living out of the Town area but I suppose it's possible, will see if it leads me anywhere.

Sorry my mistake..

The National School was schedule 32, also Manor House

Could now be, Lubenham All Saints Primary School which is located on School Lane. A Victorian building, opened as Lubenham National School in 1858.

The older part of the village, with the parish church and the remains of the manor-house, lies south of the road from Market Harborough to Rugby, towards the river. A triangular piece of land, formerly the village green, which was divided into allotment gardens probably about 1850, lies on the north side of the main road where two minor roads lead northwestwards to Foxton and Laughton.

So ''somewhere'' around there then...

PS Does anyone know where John Smith lived in 1861, it was somewhere in Shepshed..someone must remember!

Ginny, they just had no common sense! Anybody would realise that in 140 years' time people wouldn't remember where Widow Allen lived!!

Kathleen, there's a chance that Mary may have moved when she became a widow on her own. On the 1881 though the enumerator has distinguished between one address and the next. Usually they put 2 oblique strokes at the end of an address, and 1 oblique stroke between households at the same address.

The dwelling no for Mary Allen is 134, working backwards through to no 1, it says ''Manor House'', Lubenham, no other details I'm afraid!

The enumerator hasn't put a street down...fool he was!

Could this be her? For the record, it should read 'Shepshed' not Sheepshed!!!

Could someone please look for Mary Allen aged abt 58, a widow.
Her death cert. states she was aged 71 in July 1884.
