I have not been on the site for nearly a year and I would like to thank all those people who went out of their way to be of some assistance. The STEPHEN family that I am interested in left the West Indies about 1824 and settled in Australia and have been here ever since. There are lines still in the UK and Scotland, where this family originated, in and around Aberdeen. I have been in touch with the Caribbean Surnames Index and left my request there but have had no replies. I was given the name of a couple of people who work in the various government department who may have been of some help but they have not replied. So far, having no luck. I will bide my time. You can't rush genealogy.
Once again, many thanks for your replies and help.

Kindest regards,
Rhonda

Hello 'Anne of Green Gables and TonyOz' thank you for getting back to me. I did go onto the rootsweb site and I have sent off an email so I now await the reply. I'm sure that they can tell me if there would be any records kept there or in the UK and then I can go from there. Once again, thanks.

Rhonda.

Hello All, I am trying to find where I can go to get information on the above marriage in Bermuda in about 1819. Margaret ADLAM, (born where???), father Alexander, a St Kitts (St Christopher) merchant. Margaret married Sidney/Sydney aka James STEPHEN, who was from a well known legal family in the UK and WI. . Sidney/Sydney STEPHEN born about 1797, Somerleaze, Somerset, went with his family to the West Indies and was called to the bar there in about 1816. About 1824 the whole branch of this STEPHEN family came to Australia, taking up various legal posts. Sidney/Sydney eventually took a posting in New Zealand as judge of the Supreme Court of NZ, he dying there in 1858. Margaret came back to Australia, dying in Melbourne, Victoria in 1875.
If anyone can help in any way, it would be very much appreciated. many thanks in advance. Rhonda
