New addition to original thread:
I'm adding a general question about bigamy and would welcome people's thoughts ...

It's related to my original thread, which I have kept here, because of an event in the life - well, death, really - of Lucy Ann Clayton, nee Erixon.

I'm puzzled by the fact that Lucy's death is recorded in the quarter after her husband William R H Clayton married for a second time.

Records are from FreeBMD and I have double-checked the original images.

Wm's marriage: Jun Q 1873, Poplar
Lucy's death: Dec Q 1873, Stepney.

Was she really lying in a hospital or workhouse when he remarried?

Was William a bigamist, or is there another explanation?

On Ancestry there are some criminal records for a Wm. Clayton of Middx. in particular 11 Aug 1873.

...................................................................................................................

My original thread started 13 December begins here. Thank you for taking the trouble to read this far.

Hi everyone,
I've made quite good progress with tracing a few members of the Erixon (sometimes Erixson) family, who lived mainly in the Shoreditch/Tower Hamlets/St. George East areas.

Now I'm stuck, and would welcome any help or suggestions. It's an unusual name, and I would love to know its origin - wondered perhaps whether the original Erixon arrived on a timber ship from Sweden, or similar.

In particular I'm seeking any info on Christopher and Margaret Erixon, parents of Lucy Ann - they were probably born around 1800 but I can't find them in any census - there's a possible death date for Christopher in 1848 (FreeBMD) altho' it doesn't give his age.

This is what I have already:

Lucy Ann Erixon born Shoreditch c. 1826

1841 census: a Louisa Erixon, servant in Tower of London (can't find a Louisa in later census, so hope this is really Lucy Ann);

1851 census: Lucy Erixon servant in Dock St. Whitechapel;

06 Sep 1852, St. Leonard's Shoreditch: Lucy Ann Erixon married William Robert Heath Clayton (b. 1824)

1861 & 1871 census when she is married to William, with children;

1873, Dec Q : Likely death for Lucy Ann Clayton, age 47, Stepney - although I'm intrigued by William's second marriage in June Q 1873 (i.e. before Lucy died ... have double-checked originals and anyway there aren't many Wm. Robt. H. Claytons around).

Other Erixons: I don't have full access to Ancestry parish records, but can see Marriage banns for William & Lucy with a father, Christopher Erixon. Christopher also appears in baptism record with wife Margaret for son Joseph Wm. Erixon, b. abt 1822, so I'm guessing this is Lucy's brother. I found his record on Docklands website, so perhaps he was born south of the river?

Just to make it really complicated, Joseph marries a Lucy Papworth 1845 and they have a baby Lucy 1846. Joseph then dies Sep Q 1858 and his widow Lucy Erixon marries Edward Beech in 1859.

If you have read all of this, thank you! I look forward to any info you can offer.
Best wishes, Liz
