	Polly, Are you sure he died in Scotland as I don't see Alexander Ewen b1873 on Scotland's people deaths. There is one for b1873 +/- 1year, death 1936 ................... 	My credits have expired but just did a quick search for you. You can change the search parameters so that you get 1 page showing (for presumably his death) It's £6 for 30 credits. It will cost you 1 credit to list the deaths and another 5 credits to view the image. You should have some more credits left over. The credits don't expire for quite a long time so you can use them for other searches - I just forgot about mine :))

	http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ Have a look first at what dates are in the database and read up about it first. Depending when people were born/married or died depends on whether you get to see the image or not. If you can't (because they are too recent, you need to order it) Also there is a certain knack about looking for a certificate to stop too many results coming up. If you narrow it down, you don't have to search through too many pages. Just wondering whether there is a Scotlands people tip thread that may be able to help you.

	I made the mistake of assuming they were like English certificates and didn't send off for them for years as I needed the money for more important certificates. Can you imagine my surprise when I got nosey and ordered a death certificate to find out how he died and finally found out who my ancestor's parents were (as he was born before civil registration and there was no baptism for him) :)

	Polly, not sure whether you know that on Scottish death certificates (same as their marriage certificates) it lists their wife/husband and the names of the parents including the mother's maiden name.

	Just posted this on another thread: Aberdeen and North East Scotland Family History Society is excellent. They have a research centre and shop in Aberdeen if you ever get up there. http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/ They also have quite a few memorial inscriptions online.
