Oh dear - not the happy ever after story I thought. In all the census forms I found, from 1871, he was just living with his mother - his father seemed to be in lodgings elsewhere - maybe his work took him away at census time or they just weren't living together. It looks as though he lived with his mother until she died as that seems to be them both in the 1911 census.

I've been on this all day (I'm in Australia) and hadn't made headway at all, Very many thanks to you both.

How do you do it? I searched and searched and no luck. Ancestry sites have his father and mother as Richard Jordan and Esther McGill but the drawback to that was that the BDM marriage gives Richard's father as Francis, instead of Richard - all I can think of is that he used a second name instead of his birth name.

Now to find out which of the brides he married - glad he found someone!

I am trying to find the birth record of Richard T Jordan who was born in St Phillip and Jacob, which was apparently near or part of Bristol, in 1870. I can't seem to find it.

He was still living with his mother, Esther Jordan, in 1901, in Bristol.

I would love to find him in 1911 if somebody could kindly look it up fo me. Did he marry or was he still with his widowed mum?
