Sorry I am quite stuck on this. Hope somebody else has some ideas. I have looked for Raymond Hindley, and Killey, no luck. There are lots of Hindleys dying in WW1.

You could get the birth cert of Leonard to give his mother's name. You never know, it might mention a father, or the father might have registered it. A long shot, and not to be relied upon.

But I've no other ideas.

I assume you have his death cert and the informant didn't throw up anything useful?

he quite possibly could have been an only child, as he was given away when he was a tiny baby to the killey family

Hi meg
that was his wife, joanne elizabeth hughan, she kept changing her name ? only reasons known to herself.

Lise

Lise Report 16 Mar 2010 22:51

His youngest son told me that leonard could have been from that area, but not 100% sure, he thinks he had a brother, but raymoond could have been one of the sons from his new family "killey" who took leonard in after his father died in the war,

Where were the children born? Anything more know about the mother or children?

Where have you found these different names for the mother?

Lise

Lise Report 16 Mar 2010 22:44

Well she changed her name throughout her life !

Was
Joan Elizabeth Hughan
Then Joanne Elizabeth hughan
then joan elizabeth machughan

Born 26.3.22 on her birth cert, but the last 2 has been changed?? hmmm suspicious could be 21,22,23,or 24 i think, does that help at LL ???
they married in the iom approx 1941-1944. Had 2 children annette and clive.

What makes you say he had a brother Raymond? What makes you think he was born West Derby? Any clues might help.

Lise

Lise Report 16 Mar 2010 22:40

Yes it is

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Mar 2010 22:40

Oh heck, IOM is difficult, and I've no experience. Who did he marry? When? Give me a try.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 16 Mar 2010 22:39

There is really no way of telling. If you know who he married, the marriage certificate MIGHT give some clues as to his father's name, or the witnesses might turn out to be relatives.

bit of a strange one this,

Leonard's father (unknown at this point) died in the war and there fore was taken in by the killey family all his life he was known as len hindley surname killey,

he died in 1965 aged 48 in coventry do you think this could be him.

Andrew

Andrew Report 16 Mar 2010 22:17

Yes, Hindley is also mother maiden name.. Suggests he was born out of wedlock.
