Hey rose,

I only have access to the free index----not to the complete records. I saw the listing for Thomas---didn't know he was from Ireland----I did locate a listing on ancestry for what appears to be his death record 1972 in Greater London area. I did also see the listing for the son who died in Canada. The younger son is also on their list as Thomas Patrick Deehy died 1992 in Buckinghamshire, England.

I just cannot make the connection to Freda E. A Bernhardt(Burnard) Clayton. Was told by my friend she had a son Patrick by a Mr. Deehy. But as I've said she's told me that her and her younger brother have been told so many things by various members of their family they aren't sure what to believe anymore.

The only other thing I can suppose is that the time frame these kids were born Patrick 1938, my friend 1938 and her brother in 1939----this was just before the German Blitz on the city of London during WWII (1940-41) and that is the reason my friend and her brother ended up living with grandma----they thought (or were told) mom had been killed by a bomb hitting their house ...and dad was in the war in North Africa....I just don't know why Patrick was living there and why they were told he was Freda's son when I can find NO proof of this. AND if she was going to leave him with her mother, why didn't she also leave her son Francis S Clayton by her first husband who had died in 1931 a year after Francis was born??? He would have been about 10 at the time unlike the others who were 1 1/2 and 2 1/2.

Anyway so many questions, so few left who would know the facts and would "fess-up" to the truth.

I really appreciate all your help. Thanks to you we do have his marriage date, kids names & info, and the second marriage for his wife. As well as his dad and brother's death rec and brother's relocation to Canda.

Thank you so much,
Sarah

Do you have access to Ancestry? There's a tree on there that has Thomas Deehy. According to that he came from Ireland and the first son died in Canada.

A thought just occurred to me. Alice Miles (b. about 1877) was the only girl in a family of 12 boys. This family was originally from the Plymouth area. Perhaps Thomas Deehy could be a son (or more likely a grson of one of her brothers) a nephew or great-nephew to her. This is an angle I will have to check out tomorrow.....but it is 2 am here in the great state of Texas USA....and I have GOT to go to bed.

Will talk to you tomorrow if you are on here,
Sarah

Yes Stanley Clayton was Thomas H P Claytons son (was one of Alice miles 7 stepsons)---her daughter Freda's first husband was her step-brother.

We thought the Deehy connection was through a second marriage for Freda--we thought he was Alice's grandson ....but there is no record of such a marriage and no birth record for a Patrick Deehy with mother's surname either Bernhardt/Bernard or Clayton.

All we know for sure is Patrick Deehy was raised by Alice Miles Clayton along with Freda's brother's children (Maxwell Bernhardt's 4 kids)

It's just a brick wall for us.

Was Stanley Clayton related to Alice's husband, Thomas H P Clayton?

No sign of the Claytons in the old phonebooks.

The Deehy/Dengates had 2 children. One was Patrick Thomas in 1930 and then Thomas Patrick in 1938. Thomas born 1930 ended up in Canada. There's a tree on Ancestry with his details. Thomas A Deehy ,the father, died in 1972. No sign of Ethel.

Could Thomas Patrick's father be one of Alice's sons and that's why she took care of him?

Hey Rose,

Can you tell me if there is a Freda Clayton on that British phone directory between 1932 and 1948?

I just realized she married her first husband in 1929----they had the one son Francis S Clayton in 1930 (1st qtr--ie Jan to Mar) and then her husband died in London in 1931. I haven't found a marriage record for her between the Clayton one and the Walland one.....but who knows.

Thanks,
Sarah

Hey Rose,

Yes please pm me the 3 kids details as well as Gloria's second marriage.

As to Patrick Deehey's mother's name....according to my friend her family is really screwed up......says she's been told so many lies she's not sure what to believe anymore.....

Thanks
Sarah

Can't find a birth or death for Thomas A Deehy or a death or remarriage for an Ethel F Deehy.

There's this for Thomas for 1931 and 1932:

British Phone Books, 1880-1984
about Thomas A Deehy
Name: Thomas A Deehy
Address: 70 Brondesbury Villas N.W.6

Sarah,

So Thomas P Deehy married a Gloria Davison in 1961 so that looks good.

However, this looks to be his birth but the mother's maiden name is Dengate.

I talked to my friend briefly earlier (she was expecting a call from dr) but she said he married a woman named Gloria (maiden unk) and they had 3 kids---a least one was a boy. She said he committed suicide after learning something about his past ---(don't know what). She also told me his wife moved to France after he died.

My friend said it seemd odd because he had a good life and had done VERY well financially.

Anyway I think the last death record could be him. My friend said she thought they were about the same age and it shows he was born in 1938 and my friend was too. Also Chiltern is only 26 miles from Harrow where he and my friend were raised by their grmother.

I will give her the information and see if it jars any memories.

Thanks for your help
Sarah

Patrick is a cousin of a good friend of mine. I've been helping her research her family. They were both raised by thier grandmother.

This poor woman married 4 times ......raised 6 kids of her own....possibly some of her 7 stepsons (her last husband's kids) and 5 of her grandkids.

***Patrick married (don't know when, where or whom)
***did very well financially I am told.
***He had at least 1 son (don't know his name)
*** is deceased.

But my friend was born in 1938 and they were about the same age I think.

I too saw earlier that birth record you gave it's the closest I've found to the information my friend has given me. Will have to talk to her and see if she knows anything else and get back with you.

Thanks again for your help.

Sarah Report 29 Mar 2010 08:09

Hey Rose

No I don't have the Birth cert. I have tried locating his information on FreeBMD....but not sure how his last name is spelled.....I have tried just putting his first name and his mom's surname (tried all spellings Bernhardt/Bernard/Barnard/Burnard) as well as both her married names Clayton and Walland. But no luck.

Her son Francis Clayton was born in Marylebone in 1930 and her daughter Valerie Walland in Hammersmith in 1950....so I assumed he was born in that general area sometime between those 2 dates. The grandmother (Alice Miles Clayton) who raised him lived in Kensington in 1928, but was in Harrow when she died in 1954.

I appreciate your help
Sarah
