Thanks Jonesey As you can see I am still on the trail. This does confirm Ediths parents. I also have an Ellen on the 1861 census same date of birth living in st helens with her Mother Margaret and father James Hewitt nee Borton or Horton, Ellens father dies when she is 2 and her mother remarries to Thomas Ashall I thought they could be the same person, but it looks as though they are two different people thanks once again for your help regards Eileen

Hi Ann thanks for the info and the free site. I have just had a look its very good. I have trawled through it for Edith E Hewitt dob 1861, I have her on the 1881 census, but I cant find her after that time for a marriage or a death, so I dont know where she is!!! Any ideas thanks Eileen

Hi all with the help of Michael we have found a marriage for Edith Ellen Hewitt in the 3rd quarter 1896 she was married in Ormskirk Nr liverpool Lancashire, she would be 35yrs old. I dont know any more, ie who she married or where she lived, thats the next step. Thanks all

Now that is what I call Sods Law!

Both females on the record share not only the same 1st name but also the same second initial. It may need a copy of the Edith Ellen Hewitt marriage certificate to sort out which of the males she married. Take a look at the Lancashire OPC site to see if that gives the answer.

If I have found the right couples on the 1901 census that is not much help either. Both Ediths are shown as 28 years old in 1901 meaning that they would have been c23 years old when they married. The birthplace of Edith Ritchie is shown as Southport, Lancs. The birthplace of Edith Williamson is shown as Bolton, Lancs.

I have just looked at my notes, I dont think either are connected to my tree, as the Edith Ellen I have been looking for was born in Manchester. Boltons not that far away, but its a long shot. I will keep looking. Ime hot on the trail, lol. I will have to sign off now will catch up later

Hi can you look at 1841 census again is Alice Hewitt dob 1861 the wife of Joseph Hewitt. There is a 15 year age gap between them, just a thought, thanks Eileen

The 1841 is notoriuosly dodgy, but Joseph may have been married before or they just lived together

before the price goes up you might as well get that marriage cert.

Lutener was a surname ,generally it indicated illigitimate or a tribute name possibly Alices family
