A free search of the indexes on Scotlandspeople show that there were 6 Samuel Adams born in Scotland in 1911. If you don't know the area the only way to find which, if any, were born on 8th March would be to order a copies of those certificates.

Assuming that you haven't found him on the 1911 English census, you could wait until the 1911 Scottish census is released in 2011.

Do you have his father's name and occupation from his marriage certificate please? Can you tell us where he married and to whom and the area where you knew he lived?

Where did he die and when please?

I assume that this is not your Samuel - although born at the correct time?

I,m sorry i dont have much more info on sam adams apart from what i have provided,i know he was in lancashire in 1930/31 because he joined the lancashire fusileres.
If i wanted to order copies of the birth certificates that you suggested where do i get them from.

Good Morning Shaun

The certificate could be order via the Scotlandspeople site. This could be rather expensive and I would only advise that as a last resort. First try putting a request on the Records Office board asking if anyone will be visiting the Records Office in Edinburgh and is willing to do lookups on your behalf. They would be able to view the entries and if they find a Sam Adams with the correct date of birth they can make notes for you.

Did your grandparents marry please? You first step should really be to get that certificate as you will then have Sam's father's name and occupation to cross reference with any birth that you find. IF you need help to get the reference for his marriage tell us his wife's name and we can help you look. If he married in Scotland then his marriage entry will give his parents' names including his mother's maiden surname.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your notes and i understand what your saying about costs but unfortunately that is the only path open to me at the moment, because they never married and he was transferred by the army so never knew that she had a son ,my father.
so i am hoping one of the birth certificates coincides with his dob, then i can take it from there.

I got more info about his army record up to 1941 including his army number but unfortunately the mod wont pass info to me without proof of kin.or without a death certificate.

I will keep you posted of any developments, unless you have any ideas about army records.

Shaun try the Records Board first- it could save you quite a bit of money. just put Edinburgh Records Office in the heading. Then ask if anyone could do the lookups for you. If I was going myself in the near future I would happily do it for you as it would only take about 10 minutes.

sorry to keep bothering you but i would like to ask u a couple questions please.

I ordered birth certificates and they came today and 1 of them tally,s with the same person i am looking for apart from there is 3 days seperating the dob, is this usual/ or unusual ? I am not hundred percent that i had the right dob.
what are the chances of this being the right person before i go full on into this. and how do i proceed from here on tracking him or family down.

Shaun

I probably wouldn't worry too much about a couple of days out on his birth.

Do you know where he died?

Are you trying to track descendants of his siblings please?

What was the date and place of his parents marriage (from the certificate that you think may be his)?

Did your grandparents marry? If they did does the name of his father on his marriage certificate tie in with the name on that birth certificate?

What was the last address and date you have for Sam please?

Shaun

Shaun Report 16 May 2010 20:55

1 No i dont know where he died, that was the next step to try and find a death certificate.
2 Yes i am trying to find out if and how many children he had.
3 JUly 15th 1898 partick.
4 No they never married.
5 dont have an address he was in the army but i know he transferred to the 10th battalion kings liverpool / scottish regiment on 2nd jan 1941.

hope this helps.

Finding children or maybe even grandchildren of his siblings might give you some more information to work on. Obviously when the 1911 Scottish census comes out next year that will help.

Meanwhile do you have access to the 1901 census to look for possible siblings?
