Find Ancestors

Hi,

I am trying to find the parents of George Rogers born 1820 in Kirtlington Oxfordshire does anyone have the parish records for this area. Also to see if he had siblings ( I believe that he had an elder sister Caroline but there may be others!)
I ordered the marriage cert for George and it stated that his fathers name was William however this line of my family have a terrible habit of using different names even on official documents!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have found George on census from 1851 onwards, married to Harriet. When did they marry? The only George I can find in 1841 is married to a Caroline.

Hi, he married harriett in Banbury in 1844.
I cant find him in 1841 though either??

Hi,
Yes I think I have found him on all the other census u until 1894 when he died.
I too thought that the 1841 one may be him and that Caroline may be his sister as I had thought that he had a sister caroline born around 1815.
I would be surprised there were no other children betewwn them as 5 years between births was quite a long time in those days!!

I cant remember what the cert said for fathers occ, I havnt got it here with me at the moment so would have to check when I get home!

HI,

I have now checked George and Harrietts marriage cert. Georges father is William and is listed as a Farmer. Georges place of residence was Stoke Lyne Oxfordshire at the time of the marriage. the witnesses are Mary Rogers and George Cave.
Can anyone find the likely parents for George Rogers please?
I am really stuck with this one!!!

Thanks, It could be them but how do I find out for sure, its such a shame that George had already moved out by the time of the 1841 census as it makes it so hard to know which is the correct line!!!

Looks like one way is to go to Oxford Parish Archives, St Lukes Church, Temple Road, Cowley, Oxford OX4 2EN.

However you could see if anybody has Boyd's Marriage Index or a subscription to British Origins which has the Index online.

Yes, except that I got my centuries muddled with the burial so probably nothing to do with your family.

Hallo Julia, I have looked on the Kirtlington Parish Register Transcripts. There is only one George Rogers baptised in Kirtlington
20/3/1814 son of John and Anne he a dealer in sheep.,
John was not baptised in Kirtlington.
here are the baptisms of George and Harriet's children in Kirtlington
Charles Henry 7/4/1850 son of George and Harriet he a farmer
Alfred Tom 14/6/1851 son of George and Harriet of Northbrook Kirtlington.

The Emanuel Rogers mentioned on your thread was baptised in Kirtlington 12/1/1817 son of Thomas and mary he a labourer
who also had baptised
Mary 9/4/1815 he a shopkeeper

and Emma 13/12/1812 and Robart 24/2/1811

Here's a very good possibility. Looks like John is a widow, but the elder daughter is an Ann, perhaps after her mother. Also there is a Caroline.
