hi! i have just acquired this new toy . i to have an ancestor called charles wade whose daughter[ my grandmother] was born 1904 in london. He
married a russian lady like Tomasyeski? i have lost the true spellingt
however he came over from eire-castle martre near cork.
given the date of my grans birth he must have been born around 1880.
my gran was also named ANNE!
could we have a joint connection?, and have you thought of ireland as liverpool was the gateway for irish immigrants in those days.
my line is gammon/gill/wade through my mother sheila.

Hi Brenda Joy and Michael*

So sorry I haven't been back to this thread recently - I thought it had died a death many months ago.

You have both given me some excellent food for thought.

Michael* - I am fairly certain that the first one was a marriage between James Albert Wade and Sophia Jefferis as I have been in touch with a decendant of James Albert, but the Liverpool one below looks very interesting. I think I will send away for some certificates for that marriage and birth.

Brenda Joy - there seem to be a few coincidences here which can't be ignored. I will have a look for the people you mentioned in census returns and try to get my head around possible relationships. Thank you for the information - I will look into it and get back to you.

Thank you both
Tina x

Just an addition to the last posting. I have just noticed that you say your Aunt seems to think there is a connection with the Isle of Man - not sure whether this is a coincidence but my Mum has always said Mary Jane spent a lot of time in the Isle of Man she thinks it was an Uncle's Hotel - her Mum was a cook - it is possible that Mary Jane went to the I.O.M. after the 1891 Census but returned as she was on the 1901 Census working as a Domestic servant in Southport which is where we think she met my Grandfather (he also worked in Southport as a Market Gardener) and they married in1911.

Hi Tina - not sure whether this will help - but if not nothing lost. I have been researching Elizabeth Wade - she would have been my gg grandmother - she married a John Brough in 1876 - it looks like they had 2 children Agnes and Mary Jane. Check the 1881 Census and look for Mary Jane Brough - she was age 1 - it also shows John Brough as being the brother in law of J. Dawson - Elizabeth is not on the Census as she died shortly after Mary Jane was born - this I know as my mother is still alive and she has always said that her mother was brought up by the Dawsons. This might explain the J. Dawson you queried. If you think this is the same one I would appreciate any info on Elizabeth and her family as my mother knows nothing about them.

God luck with this one.

Yes June - you are right. I had managed to get myself into a muddle with James Albert Wade who married Sophia - they are on all of the census returns including 1871. This James and Sophie are a different couple who married in 1876.
My James must be an alien then lol!!
Thank you for your help

Hi Jan
Thank you for looking - I have been kicking this one around for a few years but nothing ever jumps out. I was hoping that maybe railway records would help me find a way in but I don't think I have enough info on James to look there
Looks like it's a case of ticking and bashing at lists of Charles & Elizabeths for me (how considerate they were with their choice of names lol)!!
Thanks again

Tina, just can't figure this one. Like you, I don't think he is around as Charles Wade in 1871.
If James married Elizabeth chances are it was in or around Liverpool - he would be the mobile one with his job!
There aren't very many but nothing stands out really. Depends how determined you feel, but this is a real challenge.

Thank you both for looking.
He could well be her son from a previous marriage - and I am having visions of having to spend many days looking for Elizabeth & Charles combinations from 1871 and look for likely candidate for Elizabeths who remarried.
I am just hoping I have missed something or that there is another angle I can take

Can anyone please help me to trace the whereabouts of my Wade family. Charles Wade (c1865-67 Liverpool) is my GGrandfather. I have been able to trace him through the census returns from 1881 forward – but he and his parents don’t seem to have existed before this. I cannot find a birth record for him in the name of Wade, nor any sign of James, Elizabeth and Charles being together in 1871

I have these certs and they are not my Charles:
Charles Wade 1869 Liverpool
Male Wade 1869 Liverpool

One possibility is that Charles was born with a different surname and James and Elizabeth married after the 1871 census. There is a James Wade in Liverpool in 1871, born Gloucester, Gloucestershire, but he is a schoolmaster – nothing to do with the railway – seems like an odd career change?

1881 census
38 Manchester Street, Salford

James Wade Head M 34 Raily Guard Bristol
Elizabeth Wade Wife M 38 Waitress Liverpool
Charles Wade Son U 14 Railway Nipper Liverpool

1891 census
23 Paley Street, Everton, Liverpool

James Wade Head M 46 Steam Crane Driver Gloucester Bristol
Elizabeth Wade Wife M 48 ---- Liverpool
Charles Wade Son U 26 Railway Sorter Liverpool

Charles married Annie Sutton on 16 Dec 1894 in Liverpool, St Peter – witnesses Elias William and J Dawson (neither name means anything to me.)

Details from marriage cert: Charles was a batchelor aged 29, occupation – Porter, and his father was James Wade, occupation –Engine Driver.

1901 census
5 Neville Street, Nth Scotland, Liverpool

Charles Wade Head M 34 Railway Porter Liverpool
Annie Wade Wife M 31
Mary Wade Dau S 3

I am at a loss to know how to go any further back – maybe railway records, but I don’t know which railway company James worked for, or what station he worked out of. I am going off this side of the family big style – even my Welsh Jones lot are easier to find than these!! Just to confuse things just a little bit further my Aunt thinks they may have some connection with the Isle of Man – but I have not seen anything to suggest this is the case. I would be so grateful if you could uncover something or point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Tina x
