Boo.

The House is on a recess -- doesn't mean I'm not still a bit overwhelmed with work, but at least my time is a little bit more my own for a moment. Not that I shouldn't be working this very moment ...

So how the hèll is everybody?

If you think I'm going to read 100 pages of this noise -- !! ;)

Okay, FBG has Gyp, I've got that one.

JaneyCanuck Report 23 Feb 2011 00:01

Well ... the eye thing seems to be almost gone. I suspect it was a sty. Stye? Those things kids and teenagers get.

But I've been off my glaucoma drops for a bit because they really did seem to make it horribler. Start again tomorrow maybe.

I asked first. So FBG has Gyp and LK is nervous as a cat.

Oh! speaking of which.

The kittens. Spud and Patsy. The time for worrying about being in heat was drawing near. Patsy is older than Spud by up to a month, I think. So I figured when it happened, he'd still be too young. Cripes, she can only be 5 months tops, I'd say. But there was more chirping and twittering than usual seemed to be going on.

Patsy I'm sure is female because of her colouring, (dilute long-haired) tortoiseshell, 3000 to 1 female. Spud, I'd never bothered checking. Too small and much too furry when he arrived, about 3 weeks before Patsy. They're probably aunt/uncle and nephew/niece somehow, complicated feral family tree. Spud just seemed very much a boy -- the boisterous, fearless and extremely affectionate one.

So I upended Spud under the kitchen sink light on the weekend. And put Spud back down. And Spud got back up on the chesterfield with Patsy and uh oh, it looked for a minute like there was a little, er, mounting behaviour going on.

Then came the characteristic crouch, back legs crunched up, hindquarters elevated ............

Yes, I was right.

Spud is a girl, and in heat.

Oh well, no worries now, anyhow! They are permanent indoor cats, these ones, so spaying can be at our leisure now. ;)

Tut Tut you know you know it is dangerous to stop them. There are different types though. maybe you could ask for a review.
Which ones are you on?

Maybe I am a tad nervous at the moment.
I was mugged a few weeks ago and have a broken shoulder and elbow.
I am making slow progress back to normality but still get worriedif I hear strange noises.

LadyKira Report 23 Feb 2011 01:25

Well since you are here maybe you could look at my Jones thread. It is not my tree and is very urgent. There may be a name change involved.
He has a tree on Ancestry with what he has found so far and some certificates.
I am trying to check everything at the moment but FMP went down,

It may be impossible but shold be no problem to you.

sad part of this past weekend was seeing that my ex-boss, best friend (and J's godfather) is showing more signs of forgetfulness

....... and that his wife is responding by getting angry at him, and with him.

He'll be 79 in April, she was the one who turned 80 last year.

Marmite on toast Sylv before I set orf up the M1......yum, I'll take a couple of slices to eat while sat in the traffic too!

I was listening to an Altzhimers expert a few weeks ago and she was saying that you shouldnt confuse them more by trying to tell them they are wrong in thinking...what ever it they are thinking

So if they think they are somewhere or talking to a certain person (even when they are not) you should go with the flow.....

Such a sad thing to see your loved one slip away

Be good everyone...

Safe trip Gins

Gins ........ it wasn't so much what he was thinking, but what he was doing that got her mad.

Just one example:-

We were having dinner the first night, J brought in dessert, I took the first spoonful, and felt something on the outside of the spoon bowl against my tongue

............ did a surreptitious look. Stuck-on "something".

Thought what can I do??

Didn't want to upset J

so I carried on eating, very carefully, trying to avoid putting the bottom against lips or tongue.

Next day, we were told that R had unloaded the dishwasher a day or so earlier, even though it had the sign "Not Washed" on it. Then he'd put everything away.

J was still really cross about it .... and made no bones about it.

She had been trying to find all the dirty cutlery and plates and wash them.

I was glad that I'd kept my mouth shut.

He usually goes to bed at 8 or 9 pm, then wakes up at 1 or 2 am ................ and often gets up then. If J's lucky, he sleeps to around 5 am

He's always been an early riser .......... born and raised on a farm ............ but these times are ridiculous!

I think dementia is one of the cruellest conditions.
And it is the loved ones who suffer most.
I do hope they are able to make some progress on it soon.

Renes

Renes Report 23 Feb 2011 10:38

LK

Agree 100%.
One the most poignant things I saw wasa daughter whose mother had Dementia - the daughter said Mum try and put all your kitchen bits back Iin the drawers - the mother replied

I am frightened tomorrow I may forget what drawers are

So cruel - for all concerned - as you said LK

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 23 Feb 2011 11:21

Sorry to butt in

- my mother, before she needed to go in to a Care Home, said that the condition was like a fog. She could 'see' the word she wanted to use, but couldn't reach it. As Irene says, it can be just as distressing for the sufferer, as they realise they are losing touch with normaility.

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 23 Feb 2011 11:43

Hey Det, no need to apologise - all are welcome on here honestly - especially if they are slightly crackers!

That's interesting about the fog and I have often wondered how people feel when they realise that normality is slipping away from them. I was grateful that at least my friend seemed quite happy in her confused state, as normally she is anxious about things.

Right....orf to pick up grandkids from son's......feed em.....go to daughter's to play on the Wifi......back here to feed em again.....get son to sort router....take daughter home.......and SIT DOWN! Bliss!
