Oh

J phoned this morning, a quick call because they had so much to do

Their china cupboard fell off the wall yesterday evening!

The cat had been at her water dish which ended up underneath the cabinet, but something made her flee ........... J&M didn't realise she had fled, thought she was trapped underneath the cupboard. They don't know where she hid, but it was several hours before they found sitting beside a chair in the living room!

Everything in the cupboard was smashed ..... fortunately, only "every day" crockery, not their very expensive wedding set.

Seems the cupboard had been attached to the wall only by one screw, near the bottom.

They have gradually been finding that the renovations done by a previous owner about 4 or 5 years ago were not of the highest quality ..... now it seems some of them were downright shoddy!

Those owners sold after 9 months ................. probably what we call "reno flippers" here.

M and his father had been concerned about the attachments of the upper cabinets when they moved ...... and apparently they had given this one a particularly hard pull after being able to see only one screw. It had seemed very firm, so they just thought the other screws were hidden.

Are they called Maesteg in the UK? Not sure about that

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Mar 2011 21:03

Toots

it is very edifying to look at which companies are owned or connected with which others!

So many of them operate like the M&S factory ......... a very high end appliance company will make appliances under other labels, which sell for a much lower price

so which is the correct price??

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 6 Mar 2011 21:05

????

Maesteg is a town in Wales

Maytag is part of the Whirlpool conglomerate, and does sell into about 90 countries, including Australia and the UK, under the name Maytag International

Maytag was among the top three companies in the North American market, offering a full line of washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, cooktops, refrigerators, and ranges under the Maytag, Hoover, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Dixie-Narco, and Jade brands.

But it had some major quality problems around 2002 or so ............ it was acquired by Whirlpool in 2006.

Those quality problems seem to have all been resolved ..... certainly we have been very happy with our appliances.

One of my criteria for a stove is that the oven should be large enough to take a 15-17 lb turkey, with a bit of space left over .............. the model we bought has that large an oven.

The china cabinet falling must have given them an awful fright Sylvs. How fortunate that no one was hurt. Think of the noise too...........

Yes...have heard of Whirlpool and they are known over here. Interesting about the 'other' label scenario though.......we don't know half of what goes on do we??

Mind you, I feel like that half of the time anyway........lol

Hoping to go and visit friends in Southport tomorrow.......just coffee, lunch and then home. Yippeee no cooking for me.

it did indeed give them a huge fright.

Have a great day tomorrow!

Going to Southport for the day was one of the things that we used to do in the 2-week pre-exam period at Liverpool

I use to love going to Southport. As a kid it used to be a real treat going to the beach and being sent to find the sea. We'd walk for miles and still didn't see it unless the tide was coming in. Then there was shopping in Lord Street and the fair. Brilliant.

Have a great time Cynthia

Good morning everyone !

What a lovely breakfast - just what I need.

Just caught up with all last night's posts - my IE was 'playing-up' for some reason last night (well, I think that's what it was - I hope it wasn't my computer), every time I went from one tab to another my screen would go all white and freeze with that little blue circle turning around and then I would end up somewhere else - Very strange!!

It seems o.k. now so I hope it behaves.

I suppose I had better do a 'long-overdue' backup, just in case.

Morning all and thank you for breakfast Sylvs.

The thing is with Southport these days, is that it is where so many people go to retire. The place is full of 'golden oldies' and one takes one's life in one's hands as those little motorised scooters zoom up and down Lord Street. Bit like the dodgems really.......lol

We don't go shoppping when we go to see our friends.....we talk and eat and continue talking....:)) Don't know how I manage to fit so much talking in really........

Back later. ~~~~~~

"Please don’t post about the same person/family twice." that is a tough one. Especially if the 'person' has not bee asked about before and could even have been born in a different country form any previous posts - even though with the same surname and genes. Can I be forgiven?
Sorry - just had to add that one.
