Thank you Cherilyn that's a lot of info.I'd found Thomas' will and seen there were some children I hadn't found.He mentions a William ,Thomas and Ellen Scoles who I hadn't seen.Are birth registrations patchy in Tasmania at that time? Heatherg

The Mercury (Hobart), Tuesday 7 November 1893, p.2 A Successful Tasmanian.-Mr. James Little Scoles, son of Mr. Thomas Scoles, Superintendent of the Hobart Gasworks, has been appointed manager of the Municipal Gasworks at Molong, New South Wales, having been elected out of 12 applicants. He takes charge of the works on the 19th inst. Mr. Scoles was born in Tasmania and had his training here, and also in Sydney and Mudgee, and is fully competent for the responsible position in which he has been placed. His friends here will wish him every success.

Gas Co., examined by the Attorney-General, proved that he had been a member of the Southern Star Lodge 8.5 years, and had on two occasions been N. G., having acted as Provincial G.M. The Mercury (Hobart), Tuesday 5 August 1913 HOBART CITY COUNCIL PROPOSED WIDENING OF ELPHINSTONE-ROAD. - The usual fortnightly meeting of the City Council was held at the Council chambers Town-hall last night ... The Public Works Commiteee reported that the entrance from Elphinstone-road into Audley-road was very awkward and narrow, and negotiations had been entered into with the trustees of the estate of the late Thomas Scoles to acquire land for improving this condition of affairs. The trustees of the estate had now offered to sell the land for the sum of 50 pounds, condilionally that the Council re-erected the retaining wall, fences etc , and paid all costs. The committee recommended that the offer be accepted, and the improvement carried out. Alderman Smith said that the traffic now was confined to a very narrow width of road, and the suggested improvement would prove a great convenience to the residents of the locality. The report was adopted

Thank you Ingrid and Rhonda. Now I know Thomas and Margaret did go to Hobart and I didn't have the Scoles children.I don't have Ancestry subscription at the moment but I'll ask a cousin to look up the immigration records. Heather

A few Scoles arrived in unassisted immigation into Victoria - have you search these records thru Vic Prov Records?

Thomas Scoles married margaret Little in Kilmarnock in 1854. In 1856 they had a daughter Margaret. After that the family dissapears until margaret Scoles marries James Grimmond in 1876 in Hobart Town Australia. can anybody find them going to or in Australia please? heatherg
