Hi
Have just read your updates, a Reay family bought Baldersera's shop in Wheatly Hill in the 1970s. Don't know if it helps. I thought he (can't remember his first name) had been a mechanic originally.
Hope this might help.

May I also extend my thanks to everyone here? I stumbled upon this thread by accident: I am a direct descendant of Charles Lamming and Hannah Slo(a)nes, and had no idea about her third marriage.

Hannah marries Charles Lamming on 14th October 1865, Sunderland. Their son, also called Charles, was born 1870 and went on to populate Tyneside with Lammings. Charles Sr. was a mariner and actually living in Minorca when they married, and presumably later died.

Hannah then married Joseph Castro in Sunderland in 1873 and had two children, neither of whom (to my knowledge) went on to have families.

I never knew that Hannah apparently then reverted to being a Lamming and married for a third time in 1883. Because of this information, I now have a whole new branch of the family to investigate, so my thanks also to all the information found here. :)

Hi Seaham Lass,

You were on the right trail.
Laura's birth certificate shows she was born as Laura 29 Oct 1922 to John Thomas Reay & Jane (nee Nutman) at Shotton Colliery.
She died at Delton Holme, Beverly, York, 15th Feb 1948.

Olive did marry Howard Hines in 1945 at Shotton Colliery. He was a Canadian service man. They both travelled to Canada after the war. He died in 1989. Olive is still going strong at 91.

Many thanks for your input though, from a grateful Sunderland lad.

Colin

A possible for Laura Reay is that she married John H Duncan in 1943 in Holderness, Yorkshire but sadly she died in 1948 in Holderness, aged 25 years.
Her baptism for whatever reason is Lawson Duncan 1922, Easington District, Co Durham. Parents: John Thomas and Jane Reay

A possible for Olive is that she married Howard Hines in 1945 in E. Durham District and died in 1993 in Carlisle

A much belated thankyou for your support and guidance. After obtaining the death certificate for George, things moved on to discovering living relatives and we are now in touch, even to a sister of George, who is alive and well in Canada at 91 years of age.
I must share that my first contact was to be the son of George, when I phoned a possible number for him. Sadly, it was his recently widowed wife who answered the phone. I can only impress that I was so lucky to find her friendly and positive attitude when she wished to know more of the family history.Bless her, despite everything, this branch of the tree would have withered on the vine.

Thanks again guys.

Many thanks for the death index information. Certainly needs to be given serious consideration. If I cannot glean more information of this George anywhere, I will have to have a punt at the death certificate.
Much appreciated.

I have all the bmd's for Robert Hazard Reah. He married Hannah Lamming, a widow of Charles Lamming.(nee Slones) 18 Oct 1883. Hannah fibbed about her age, stating she was 30, when in fact she was 39. The age difference was a good clue when trying to find them in the 1901 censuses in Gateshead. The Thomas had me stumped for a little while, until the bits began to come together later on. The Jane A was not a Reah family member, she was in fact Jane Ann Lamming, the niece of Hannah. She is still with them on the 1911 census in Shotton Colliery.
Many thanks again,
Colin

TootyFruity,
I have a near complete full family history tree, and only recently found where the surname of Reah was changed to Reay on the birth of John Thomas Reay. He was an only child born to parents Robert Hazard Reah and Hannah Sloanes(Slones). Hence the the children of John Thomas were also registered as Reay children.
Thanks
Colin
