Now looking for a birth for isabella. I found 7 none with William as father

the one for 16/5/1799 father Donald from Leith might fit as she had a son called Donald

Anyone got any ideas please?

To Helen, jadean, rootgatherer and cathy and anyon e else who looked at this.

I have printed the certificte out and it looks like the right one.
Where the parents names are it says
father - McDonald deceased and mother Mcdonald M.S - deceased

First time I have ever seen a scottish certificate where the parents names are not printed

Margaret was a widow in 1861 so thought i would look for Alexanders death from 1855 -1861 and there are 25

Thanks so much to you all I would never have found it by myself. i would still like to find Alexander and margarets parents

I also saw that possible death yesterday.

Looking like it may well be the one you're looking for.

Isabella M*Laren / M*Donald
1861
County: Lanark
District: High Church

Note from the census Rootgatherer sent, the family were living in the High Church registration district. Likely Isabella died following the census while still living with her daughter.

Just out of interest, East John St later changed it's name to Bluevale St. Now gone but used to connect the Gallowgate with Duke St in Glasgow.

Let us know how you get on.

Elizabeth

Sorry I have no credits at the moment for Scotlandspeople but using the free search and the following gives only 1 result.

M*laren
M*Donald
Isa*
1861 - 1880
birth year 1805 +/- 10 years
Glasgow City.

When searching for "Mac" or "Mc" names use the * (wildcard) as often Mac changed to Mc and vice versa. This will then give you results for both. Also sometimes Isabella changed to Isabel or even just Isa so again the wildcard will give you results for all of these.

Good Luck.

Possible way of finding out Isabella's mother's name is to try and find her death certificate on Scotlandspeople. Assuming she died after 1855

Looked for: Isabella M*Donald / M*Laren (cross-ref names)

There are 5 matches coming up for a death between 1855 and 1910 (imagine Isabella would have died by then)

A Scottish death certificate records a spouse ... and parents names.

You could maybe try tracking this couple through the census to see if Isabella is still alive after 1855 before you consider checking out Scotlandspeople ... which costs credits.

£6 for 30 credits
1 credit to view the index and 5 credits to download and view the certificate.
