It's possible Swan was a Baptisimal addition.

Some people gained names upon Baptism that they were not registered with.

Maybe this is what has happened here?

I agree Vera I think it is, I think everything matches apart from the middle name and as you say she may have preferred the name Maria and changed it from Swan

Thank you so much for all the searching you have done for me - I really appreciate it

Thanks again

Middy,
You can put whatever names you like on a marriage certificate...maybe she didn't like Swan and decided on Maria.....my grandmother was born Annie Maud...but on her marriage certificate she is Vera Ann !!!

Hi Vera

I think that this is her on the 1851 census that you found but I am still confused as to why she would have Maria on the marr cert as her middle name - and I can't find a birth with Maria as a middle name for the time that she would have been born - the only one is with Swan, so if they are the same person why would her middle name on the marr cert not be Swan?

Thanks

On the 1851 I showed you........... everything fits fathers name and occupation.....What do you think?

Looks like all of the second names were their mothers maiden names.

That doesn't mean they would always the middle name .

Hi Flick

Didn't think of that - it's just that on the baptism records it shows her dad as Thomas and the marriage cert shows the same name and also the profession is the same - shoemaker business.

Thanks
