But you said he was born 1877. The person that Jax has found was born 1873. Is it the right man? Are you sure? You could have researched he 1881 census for yourself, free, so did you do that, and did it raise a query re his dob?

If william James Knowles born 1877 is your husbands gt grandfather then the 2nd lot of info is probably him unless you know otherwise

Ladies and Gents Thank you for your help. This is what happens when You have no real family connections to help you.
Right this is the only solid fact I have. Maurice Herbert Knowles. Birth date 7/05/1913 Born Bradford on Avon. His wife was Lilian Agnes Ford born 25/02/1919. I have all Lilians info. As to the Knowles info My mother in law could only come up with her fathers Name but dosent Know anything about her grandfather and mother. Strange but true. I have asked her to get information but none has been given. So I am here with you wonderful people Hoping to fill in the gaps. M

Well, Jaz, when I started reading through again I wondered if I was nit-picking about that date, and Lo and Behold perhaps I wasn't.

Mandylou, just a word of caution, you say the only solid fact you have is ... Maurice's dob 7/5/1913 - but unless you have his birth certificate even that is not a solid fact, but the date that was put on his death record, by whoever registered the death - and if that was your mother-in-law it sounds as though her memory was not that reliable!

Okay, I can see a Maurice H Knowles born Q2 1913 Bradford upon Avon, mmn Tadd, so it is probably him. Then we find a marriage of a Knowles to a Tadd, William James Knowles and Kathrine Julia Tadd. Now as you have seen, it is dead easy for an experienced researcher to go down the wrong route, let alone a less experienced one, so if it were me I would get the marriage certificate of William and Kathrine before going any further. Though it probably won't give a father, it might have useful witnesses to tie us down to the right family.

Even where our relatives are convinced of the truth it is often proved wrong without documentary evidence.

Knowles. Have just had a chat with my mother in law. She says that Maurice Herbert was born in 1914..I asked her if she had any other info. She thinks all family paperwork was thrown away when her older sister died...Nobody cares about the grandparents..In order to find out I am going to have to buy some certs.
